Wishing All a Happy & Healthy 2014 Thank you so much for your continued support!
We'd like to extend our heartfelt wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season. If you haven't already made a 2013 tax deductible donation to the Conservancy, we hope you will consider supporting us. And if you already have, we can't thank you enough for your generosity. We know how many worthy causes compete for your time and attention, and we are deeply honored to have earned your support.
In the words of renowned author-illustrator David Macaulay, the SS United States "is America's great superliner, the only one we've got. So let's make sure she stays with us. Please join me today in the fight to save the United States. Its a noble cause, and it's one we can still win."
Once again, thank you!
There's still time...
to make your year-end tax-deductible gift TODAY to
help rescue and restore the SS United States

 Distribution Center Mailing Glitch
|
It has come to our attention that some of you have received duplicate copies of our Annual Appeal & Membership Drive materials in the mail, while others have not yet received yours. While we are grateful to those supporters who are able to make multiple donations throughout the year to help save the SS United States, we strive to ensure your name is on our mailing list only once.
As we work with our distribution center to identify what has caused duplicate mailings -- or absence of one, we ask that you please contact us if you have received multiple copies of our Annual Appeal & Membership package or if your address is incorrect. This also will help us to verify that you're in our master mailing database only once.
We sincerely apologize to those supporters who have received multiple mailings, and to those who have yet to receive theirs.
If you have been waiting to receive an Annual Appeal & Membership Drive package in the mail to make your year-end tax-deductible contribution, links to the electronic versions of our annual documents are provided below for your convenience.
You may make a secure online donation HERE, or click here for a printable Donation Form that you can mail in with your donation.
Again, we apologize to everyone who has been adversely affected by the distribution center mailing issue.

SS United States 2014 Wall Calendar
|
The Conservancy is pleased to announce the 2014 edition in our popular SS United States wall calendar series!
This year we've decided to change things up a bit. After last year's production delays, we've opted to try a slightly smaller calendar size. This year's calendar will be 12" x 9", or 12" x 18" when open.
Along with the new size, the calendars have a new price! The 2014 calendars are priced at just $16.95 each, plus $5 to cover shipping and handling. Calendars are expected to ship by mid-January.
Click HERE to pre-order your 2014 SS United States wall calendar now.
Until your new calendar arrives, if you bought our 2013 calendar, make sure you flip the page - we included a January 2014 spread!

Celebrate a New Beginning in the New Year
|
Our membership chapters provide local area support to the Conservancy and help to raise awareness of the SS United States. Additionally, Chapters hold social events to engage our members and celebrate our successes.
Our Philadelphia Chapter has planned a festive gathering to celebrate the beginning of a new year, with new opportunities for saving America's Flagship! This event, originally scheduled for December but postponed because of inclement weather, will take place on Saturday, January 18, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Champps Restaurant at 2100 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia, across from the ship.
Conservancy Executive Director Susan Gibbs will provide an update on the current status of the ship and the Conservancy's goals for the new year. Tickets are $30 (children under 18 free) and include lunch and soft drinks. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, January 10. To purchase your ticket, please click here.

 A Poster for a Cause
|
 | Alyse Schulte with her SS United States poster |
In addition to the models mentioned in our last issue, the Conservancy also receives messages from supporters who have produced paintings and other artwork featuring the SS United States.
Philadelphia graphic designer Alyse Schulte was so moved by the plight of the SS United States that she created the poster seen at the top of this issue of our e-update. Conservancy Executive Director Susan Gibbs happened upon the artist at a craft fair and snapped this photo of Schulte with her poster.
Schulte shared the following story behind her inspiration: "I worked on the poster over the summer when I read in Hidden City Philadelphia that the ship was in danger of turning into scrap metal. I live in South Philadelphia and have always loved seeing the ship when driving down Delaware Ave. It always stood out to me and helps define the area of the city filled with strip malls and shopping plazas. It was just something I was passionate about and I wanted to help out."
The poster is 11"x 17" printed on 80-lb. high-quality, matte white paper, and is available from the artist's RandomLake Etsy shop for $25 plus $3 shipping. Schulte has pledged 50% of the profits from her S.O.S. poster sales toward saving the SS United States.

Become Part of Her Permanent History
|
Do you have a unique "Big U" story, some vintage photos or even some film footage of your trip aboard the SS United States? We would love to make your memories part of the SS United States' permanent history! One of the best parts of interacting with our supporters is hearing about your first-hand connections with the ship.
While some of you have shared your memories through Facebook and Twitter and on SavetheUnitedStates.org, we also strongly encourage you to reach out to us at info@ssusc.org. Our Preservation Associate and Archivist is consolidating these stories into our permanent archive. In addition to appearing in future e-updates and on our web site, your story may become part of a future exhibit - including the permanent one in our planned museum aboard the redeveloped SS United States!
To read more about our Legacy Project and how we're helping to preserve these memories, please click HERE. To submit your story or to ask how to contribute copies of your photos and film, please click here: info@ssusc.org.
