ASSOCIATED PRESS STORY ON SS UNITED STATES RUNS IN MEDIA OUTLETS WORLDWIDE

The Associated Press released a major story that was picked up by media outlets worldwide regarding our efforts to prepare the SS United States for redevelopment. From locations spanning California, Indiana and Washington, DC, to Nova Scotia, Australia, and the UK, people are reading about America's Flagship's plight and potential and sharing their stories and support.  If you missed it, the full article and photos can be viewed HERE.

The SS United States is not yet saved - she still needs a permanent home - but we are working hard to make America's Flagship more attractive to potential developers while preserving the ship's historic features.  Continued support from Conservancy members is crucial for helping us advance our museum plans, build our curatorial collections, and pursue redevelopment plans and partners.

At this time of Thanksgiving, we want to express our profound gratitude to you, because we've only been able to succeed in keeping the SS United States afloat with your help. We continue to race against the clock as we work to save America's Flagship and honor her historic legacy.

Perhaps you've already become a member and want to know what else you can do. Here are just some of the ways you can help:
  • Share the Associated Press story with your friends and family through email or the social media links at the top of this page;
  • Advocate for our efforts to save the ship in the article's comments section and through social media;
  • Reach out to public officials in New York and Pennsylvania (we've created a form letter you can download here);
  • Encourage your friends, family members and colleagues to become Conservancy members;
  • Join one of our Conservancy Chapters, or gather some like-minded friends and start one near you;
  • Consider purchasing five square-inches of the "virtual" SS United States each month with a tax-deductible donation of just $5 at SaveTheUnitedStates.org;
  • Multiply your contribution by seeing if your employer has a Matching Gift program;
  • Give the gift of history with a membership or "buy" a portion of the ship for a friend or loved one (you'll even be able to download a commemorative certificate);
  • Become a Corporate Sponsor or Partner.

As you consider holiday gifts, plan a visit to our Online Shop. With many of the items, a portion of each sale is donated to the Conservancy. This is a great way to support our efforts while purchasing a gift for yourself and others!

Choose from Conservancy apparel, including a unique limited edition tee-shirt featuring a design by renowned author-illustrator David Macaulay, SS United States wristbands, Lady in Waiting DVDs, and fine art prints and models. We have something for everyone, and know that your gift will be giving twice.

We wish you a safe and happy holiday season, and look forward to 2014 as the year we Save Our Ship!
