Gracie the Salty Dog

Meet the Conservancy's unofficial mascot - Gracie the Salty Dog! Gracie was the subject of a recent photo shoot on board, and she is creating a fun way to help share and spread the word about the plight and potential of America's Flagship.

But we need your help captioning the photos. If you can think of a witty caption for a fluffy dog enjoying her time on board our most important endangered historic ship, be sure to tweet them to us, email them to us, or share them on our Facebook page. We'll share our favorites on Facebook in the upcoming days. Help

rallyPhiladelphia SOS Campaign Events: Rally, Lighting Displays, & Film Screening

Philadelphia's PECO building (on right) showing where the SS United States Conservancy's
SOS message will be displayed beginning on June 17th.

The SS United States Conservancy's Philly Chapter is organizing a series of SOS Campaign events June 17th - June 19th.

An outreach rally will be held in Center City Philadelphia on Tuesday June 18, from 4 to 6 pm at LOVE Park. NOTE THE TIME CHANGE - the event will be held in the late afternoon, not in the late morning.  The event will feature live entertainment, including a performance by Jimmy Maraventano of Jimmy and the Parrots of his fantastic original song about the Big U, Symbol of America.

Also on June 18th, Philadelphia's Independence Seaport Museum will host a free screening of our new documentary film, SS United States: Made In America at 7 pm.

The Conservancy's urgent SOS Campaign will also be featured in two Philadelphia lighting displays.  America's Flagship will illuminate the top of the PECO Building at 23rd and Market Streets in Center City.  Over 2 million LED bulbs contribute to the lighting display, and the Conservancy's message will run June 17, 18 and 19.  The 29-story Cira Centre building, located near Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, will also display a massive illuminated SS United States message on those same dates.

We need volunteers to help organize, promote, and attend the rally and film screening. Contact the chapter at philadelphia@ssusc.org to find out how you can help. We need help with promotion, securing speakers for the rally and organizing a raffle for the movie screening.  Thank you in advance for your support!
