The Conservancy's urgent SOS campaign to save the SS United States has been picked up by TIME.com. Please read, comment, share, and tweet this great article to help spread the word about this important cause! Click this link to read the article in full.
TIME is no stranger to coverage about the SS United States and its associated personalities - the ship's designer William Francis Gibbs (above left) and first captain Commodore Harry Manning (below left) both graced the magazine's cover over half a century ago.
Our SOS Campaign continues full speed ahead and we are profoundly grateful for the generous support we have received from across the nation and around the world.
Negotiations for potential redevelopment remain underway as we work to secure partners to help repurpose the vessel and launch the SS United States Center for Design and Discovery. Your generous backing has granted us crucial time to vet and advance some intriguing redevelopment prospects, and we are encouraged by the possibilities before us. More information will soon be forthcoming, and we thank you once again for your support (and patience).
If you haven't yet given to the campaign, any amount you can spare will go a long way toward saving our ship and launching our museum. Please click HERE to contribute. And once again, thank you so much!

Support our efforts now to
help rescue and restore the SS United States

Conservancy Board Member Mark B. Perry Steamship Historical Society Keynote Speaker
|
Mark B. Perry, founding member of the Conservancy's Board of Directors, ocean liner memorabilia collector, and executive producer of the hit ABC television series Revenge, recently gave the keynote speech at the Steamship Historical Society's annual "ShiPosium", held this year aboard the RMS Queen Mary. Perry's speech was entitled, "From Shipgeek to Shipster: Living with S.O.C.D. (Ship Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)" (a condition we suspect he shares with many Conservancy members!) He also spoke passionately about the importance of preserving and restoring the SS United States.
Perry produced and appeared in the fantastic 2008 documentary film SS United States: Lady in Waiting. He also participated in the Conservancy's new documentary, SS United States: Made in America, now available for streaming on our website. |

On May 18, the Conservancy participated in National Maritime Day festivities in Baltimore. Conservancy executive director Susan Gibbs was honored to serve as one of the bell ringers at the special ceremony aboard the NS Savannah that also featured Maritime Administrator David Matsuda. Gibbs also had the honor of speaking about the SS United States with former Congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley, who sponsored legislation to prevent the Big U's foreign sale back in 1972! The Conservancy would like to extend a huge thanks to Steve Perry, our Philadelphia Chapter Co-chair and Advisory Council member, who helped secure the Conservancy's participation at this special event and is one of the SS United States' most knowledgeable, committed and energetic supporters. Thank you, Steve!
Also on May 18th, the SS United States was featured in a special presentation called SS United States: Damsel in Distress at the Cape May County Library in Villas, NJ. We'd like to express our profound gratitude to Ed Carson, Library Facilities Manager at Cape May County Library Lower Cape Branch, who helped organize this excellent presentation.
