Spring Cleaning... It's Not Just for Housework!
Spring Cleaning The change of season is the perfect time to get your insurance "house" in order. Reevaluating your policies now, may save you money and headache later. Take some time to consider these area of coverage...

Homeowners Insurance
Do you need the same the coverage you had over the winter? Does your home qualify for any discounts? Warmer weather means home projects for many, if you are thinking about renovating or building, it is important to have enough coverage throughout your project(s). If the completed project(s) increases the value of your home, you may also consider adjusting your coverage to a higher level.

Flood Insurance
Spring flooding is a concern that can cause damages requiring repairs into the thousands of dollars. You may consider purchasing flood insurance even if your home is not in a high-risk zone.

Valuable Items
Over the past few months, including the holiday season and Valentine's Day, you may have acquired some new, high-value gifts such as expensive jewelry or luxury items. Create or update your Home Inventory and cross check it with your Homeowner's Policy. It may be time to increase your coverage or purchase a floater. Of course, we are happy to review this with you to assist in the decision-making process.

Spring Auto Insurance Auto Insurance
Like homeowners insurance, start by examining your coverage. Perhaps you qualify for additional discounts? Good student, good driver, multi-car, and paid-in-full discounts are just a few for which you may qualify. If you have a car or motorcycle that is only driven in the warmer months, confirm that your policies are up to date prior to taking that first spin of the season.

Simple 4-Step Home Inventory Plan
Having an updated home inventory will help you to:
  • Purchase enough insurance to replace the things you own.
  • Have your claims settled faster.
  • Substantiate losses for your income tax return.
There are many ways to create an inventory, including simply writing a list and saving your receipts and photos in a file. It may seem overwhelming to record information about everything you have in your house, but this is 2016 and there's an APP for that!

The FREE
Know Your Stuff AppKnow Your Stuff ® App (for Apple or Android) makes the process simple and enables you to update the list as needed. Your inventory will be a valuable tool in determining adequate coverage for your possessions.

With or without the App, start here...
  1. GET A GAME PLAN: Decide how you will organize the process-- by item category (furniture, electronics, etc.), value or age. A room-by-room approach will break down the project into manageable segments. Don't forget your attic, basement, garage, porch, patio, shed and other storage areas.
  2. LIST IT: Make note of expensive items, such as jewelry, furs, and collectibles. Valuable items may need separate insurance. And don't forget to list more commonplace items such as toys and clothing. For many items like books, CDs, sheets or pots and pans, you can make a general estimate of how many you have and their approximate value. Download a sample list here.
  3. PICTURE IT: Shoot and store a visual record of your possessions and keep it together with your inventory.
  4. STORE IT: Whether you make a paper or electronic record, store a copy somewhere outside of your house where you will be able to access it if you are unable to enter your home.
UPDATE IT: As you acquire new items, keep receipts noting specific information about make, model, price and add this info to your inventory while the details are fresh in your mind.
Of course, if you use the free Know Your Stuff ® App these steps are automated and stored for your future use!

Once you have your inventory, let's review together and cross-check it with your coverage.
Give us a call at 401-846-9629-- We're always here to help!

April Client of the Month:
The Newport Restoration Foundation
Newport Restoration Foundation Founded in 1968 by Doris Duke, the Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF), a non-profit institution, was formed with the express purpose of preserving, interpreting, and maintaining the landscape and objects reflecting Aquidneck Island's 18th- and 19th- century architectural culture. Since its founding, the NRF has restored or preserved 83 buildings. Today, the NRF owns a collection of 78 historic buildings including 73 homes that are rented as private residences and maintained by a crew of carpenters and painters. This is one of the largest collections of period architecture owned by a single organization anywhere in the country. More importantly, the majority of these structures are being lived in and used as they have for more than three centuries, making them a vibrant part of the community. The NRF owns and operates three museum properties: Rough Point, Doris Duke's Newport mansion, Whitehorne House, featuring the Doris Duke Collection of 18th - century Newport furniture and Prescott Farm, an example of early American landscape and architecture. The NRF is also actively engaged in educational efforts, scholarly research and historic preservation. Follow us on Facebook to learn more about the NRF this month.

On 4/22, the Full Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. Early Native American coastal tribes called this the Full Fish Moon because this is the time of year that the shad swim upstream to spawn.
