Avoid 5 Common Insurance Mistakes
|
AND Save Money Too!
Following are five of the biggest DOs and DON'Ts for insurance consumers. See the big picture below, then visit our Resources page for even more details and practical suggestions to cut your insurance costs:
- DON'T: Confuse Real Estate and Rebuilding Values. Make sure you have enough coverage to completely rebuild your home and replace all of your belongings in the event of a disaster. DO: Raise Your Deductible. An increase from $500 to $1000 could save up to 25% of your annual premium.
- DON'T: Judge a Policy Just on Price. Competitive pricing is important but should not be your only criterion for choosing a provider. DO: Select a company with excellent customer service that will respond to your claims fairly and efficiently.
- DON'T: Neglect to Purchase Flood Insurance. Damage from flooding is not covered under standard homeowners and renters policies. DO: Remember even if you live in a low-risk zone, floods can happen.
- DON'T: Do the Minimum. Purchasing only the legally required amount of liability insurance for your vehicle means you are likely to pay more out-of-pocket if you are sued. DO: Shop around for the best policy.
- DON'T: Count on Your Landlord. Too many renters think that their landlord is responsible for their belongings-- this is not the case. DO: Look into all available discounts, buying several policies with the same insurer such as renters, auto and life will generally provide savings.*

Travel Insurance Provides Peace of Mind
|
Vacations can sometimes cost thousands of dollars, so it is important to have the proper insurance protection in case the cruise or tour operator goes bankrupt or if you need to cancel your trip due to an illness or other unforeseen event.
The four major types of Travel Insurance include:
- Trip Cancellation
can reimburse you if the cruise line or tour operator goes out of business or if you must cancel your trip due to sickness, a death in the family or another calamity listed in the policy. - Baggage Insurance or Personal Effects Coverage
can reimburse you if your personal belongings are lost, stolen or damaged during your trip. - Emergency Medical Assistance
would cover you if, for example, you had to be airlifted off a mountain due to a skiing accident or if you had to stay for a prolonged period in a foreign hospital, or needed to be flown home quickly. - Accidental Death
provides a variety of coverages if you or a family member die on while traveling.* For more details we've put a complete Travel Insurance Primer on our website Resources page for your information.

Interpretive exhibits include documents, maps, photographs, videos, and artifacts that highlight several key aspects of life in the local Irish community from the 1600s to the present. Located at 648 Thames Street, the Museum will be open this month from 12N-4pm on 3/9, 3/10, 3/15, 3/16 and 3/17.
