GUEST SPEAKER: Daniel Blouin is coming to St. Lawrence! He has written a successful book named ''Sorties de zone'' about personal development. Host of the TV show under the same name, he has interviewed a lot of stars and produced some of them like Annie Brocoli, Keven Parent, Nicola Ciccone, and others. Friends with professional hockey players, he started the Pond Hockey Lac-Beauport, one of the biggest outside hockey events in the world! Room 347-348-349, @12:15 to 13:45 on Tuesday, February 9th. Once again this year, French teacher Suzanne Lemay, will be helping a team of students organize this amazing event here at SLC.  It will be held on Thursday, April 28th at 12:30 in the cafeteria. Everybody is encouraged to either offer their head as a symbol of suport or to donate a few dollars to the cause. Whichever you choose, we thank you all in advance. Don't forget, if all else fails, Joanne Gosselin (room 272) can hook you up with a peer tutor in certain courses. Drop by her office and fill out a tutor request form. Within 24 to 48 hours you will be matched with a peer tutor that you can meet as many times as you want, free of charge. Please be advised that tutoring is offered in a limited amount of subjects.

Cegep Scholarship Program
This program is intended for students who are registered in a CEGEP program leading to university studies in management (business administration, accounting sciences or equivalent).

The Selection committee evaluates the entire application package, i.e. the applicant's academic results, letter of intent expressing interest in the CPA profession and describing the applicant's extra-curricular and community activities, and a letter of recommendation.

Number and amount of scholarships: 40 scholarships of $750.
Date to remember: Applicants must submit their application package to the Foundation no later than February 12, 2016.

Huff : du théâtre en anglais à Québec
 
Du 16 au 20 février prochain, pour la première fois, le Périscope présentera une pièce en anglais (et surtitrée en français) : Huff, ayant pour sujet la réalité d'un jeune amérindien qui grandit dans une réserve. Il s'agit d'une pièce assez crue et pour public averti, mais qui demeure principalement humaine, touchante et bouleversante.

I am a former SLC student now studying at Laval University. Last summer, I lived in Senegal for two months. I met an incredible family, and I am now trying to help people over there. I am thus collecting cans and bottles. I will bring the money with me this summer, as I am returning to Senegal mid-July 2016. All the profits will be donated to the parent association in Lalane-Diassap, a small village of around 370 people, whose goal is to send children to school.

Congratulations Victoria Grondin!

Her book will be released on April 7, 2016 and she will be at the Salon du livre de Québec.  She wrote her book in hight school and signed a contract during her first year at St. Lawrence. She is now in her second year in the Social Science program. 

Her book is about autism, a subject she has been studying since 2013.  

Here is what is written on the back cover: 

Imaginez un instant un univers où les rôles sont inversés. L'intégralité de la population est née avec un trouble du spectre de l'autisme. La société est parfaitement fonctionnelle, conçue en fonction des besoins de ses individus.

Ensuite, il y a vous, tout petit vous, qui venez au monde. Vous êtes, dans notre monde à nous, parfaitement normal. Par contre, dans cette histoire, vous êtes handicapé. Un cas lourd, difficile à encadrer. C'est le monde à l'envers.
C'est la difficile réalité que vit Guillaume avec beaucoup de difficulté, jusqu'à ce qu'il fasse la rencontre de Grace, une jeune fille pas comme les autres.

Grâce à une perspective nouvelle, Victoria Grondin propose une touchante réflexion sur l'autisme et notre façon de traiter ceux qui en sont atteints. Un livre qui porte à réfléchir.

Deadlines for University Admissions
In Québec, the deadline to apply for the fall semester in a limited admissions program is March 1st (Bishop's deadline is April 1st). Deadlines for programs and universities outside QC vary. An admissions guide is available on the Career Counselling Services' intranet community (link on the right-hand side when you log on to your portal).

Access to the fitness centre.
Fitness
All registered SLC students are members of the fitness centre. You must show proof of attending SLC with your OPUS card. You will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard, supervisor or any staff member or teacher. If you do not have your OPUS Card with you, you will be asked to leave the fitness centre. For more info on how to obtain an OPUS card, please see Joanne in room 272.

WHEN THE SEMESTER ENDS

The Winter 2016 semester ends on Friday, May 20th. All students are expected to be available until the end of the semester. 
In exceptional circumstances (ie: two exams scheduled at the same time, illness, etc.) students may be permitted to write a special exam.
