UP COMING ACTIVITIES


Montreal's Geordie Productions is presenting the playOffensive Fouls by Jason Long on Wednesday, November 19th in the cafeteria at 19:00.
The play is an exploration of cross-cultural relationships, racism, violence and respect as seen through the eyes of a teenage couple, and is part of Geordie's 2014-15 season entitled Inspiring Dialogue.
Admission is free and everyone is invited. This event is sponsored by the SLC Student Association.

TRAVEL AND CHRISTMAS VACATION
Important
It is the time of the year where many students look into traveling during the holidays. Remember not to schedule any departures before December 20, 2014.
WHEN DOES THE SEMESTER END:
The fall 2014 semester ends on Saturday, December 20, 2014. All students are expected to be available until the end of the semester. In exceptional circumstances (ie: two exams scheduled at the same time, illness, etc.) students may be permitted to write a special exam.
Please note that should exams be cancelled due to weather conditions, those exams could be rescheduled to Saturday December 21st.
Should you have an emergency, contact Academic Services immediately.
IF YOU PLAN A TRIP DURING THE EXAM PERIOD, YOU RUN THE RISK OF FAILING THE COURSE.

Don't forget, if all else fails, Joanne Gosselin (room 272) can hook you up with a peer tutor in certain courses. Drop by her office and fill out a tutor request form. Within 24 to 48 hours you will be matched with a peer tutor that you can meet as many times as you want, free of charge. Please be advised that tutoring is offered in a limited amount of subjects. If you've lost your lunch box with yesterday's lunch still in it, there are several lost lunch boxes

 (as well as a lot of other stuff) at reception and it's starting to smell.

Should you be planning to travel in 2014-2015, please verify the academic calendar before reserving your trip.  
If you plan a trip during the semester or during the exam period, you run the risk of failing the course.
Community Christmas Hamper Campaign 

For 19 years now, the English-speaking community has been jointly coordinating the success of a Community Christmas Hamper Campaign for families in need. We distribute about 230 Christmas hampers to English-speaking households in the Quebec City region, which is an enormous challenge with a most heart-warming outcome. The holiday spirit is about giving and whether its food, a monetary donation or simply the time in your schedule and the muscles in your back, we appreciate every member and volunteer who contributes to this incredible community experience!

Our Community Christmas Hamper Campaign starts Sunday, November 9th.

  • Donate non-perishable goods: From November 9th - December 14th

  • Donate monetarily: Online at Canadahelps.org >search Jeffery Hale Community Partners > Select our campaign and receive a tax receipt immediately. You may also submit by cheque payable to the Jeffery Hale Community Partners to Christine Dick. All cash donations will be used to purchase such perishables as fresh fruit & vegetables, flour, beef, and turkey to complement the canned good donations. 
  • Donate your time: Volunteer with us by registering with your student representative William Courteau at the Student Council Office or by contacting the Campaign Volunteer Coordinator at 418-684-5333 ext. 1550 or e-mail amy.bilodeau@ssss.gouv.qc.ca to sign up for one or more of these volunteer opportunities:   

Wednesday, December 17th
9 a.m - 2 p.m Non-perishable collection crew needed to pick-up canned goods from various sites across the city, deliver to our main center - CEGEP St. Lawrence and unload items.
2 p.m - 5 p.m Sorting crew needed to sort and count donated items.

6 pm - 9 p.m.

Thursday, December 18th
1 p.m - 4 p.m Strong team needed to unload delivery trucks of frozen turkeys & fresh produce.
2 p.m. - 4 p.m Box-makers needed to prepare and label Hamper boxes

Friday, December 19th
9 a.m - 12 p.m Hamper packing crew needed to place purchased and donated food items into Hampers boxes for families.
1 p.m - 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, December 20th
8:30 a.m - 9 a.m Teams of drivers and helpers with strong backs needed to deliver Hampers from our main center CEGEP St. Lawrence to homes of families in need. Morning coffee, map and instructions will be provided.

Strong arms, happy drivers and good cheer are particularly appreciated!

Stock market simulation Laval University

You want to experience what it could feel like to spend $100,000 on the stock market or simply try and incredible experience? The this competition is for you.  Laval University is hosting its 11th edition on January 16, 2015.  You do not need to have any experience of financial knowledge to participate.  Participation prizes and a total of $1,000 in bursaries will be distributed during the event. The activity costs $15 and includes visit of the business faculty, simulation, lunch and a T-shirt.  If you are interested, please contact Karina Brassard (MIO or e-mail) for registration form.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

Deadline: November 28, 2014

Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec) who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:

Up to $10,000 for tuition per year (for up to a maximum of four years)

$7,500 a year for living expenses (for up to a maximum of four years)
