JOBS FOR STUDENTS

 

The Basketball teams are in need of minor officials for their home games. The students applying for this job must have experience as a basketball minor official. The games are usually held Friday evenings between 18:30 and 23:00 and weekends during the day. Again the  students must be available at these hours.

Don't forget, if all else fails, Joanne Gosselin (room 272) can hook you up with a peer tutor in certain courses. Drop by her office and fill out a tutor request form. Within 24 to 48 hours you will be matched with a peer tutor that you can meet as many times as you want, free of charge. Please be advised that tutoring is offered in a limited amount of subjects. Fitness Centre.
Fitness
The fitness centre membership is included with the purchase of the physical education manual. All currently registered students at SLC may use the fitness centre by simply showing their student ID Card (OPUS). You must show proof of attending SLC with your OPUS card. You will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard, supervisor or any staff member or teacher. If you do not have your OPUS Card with you, you will be asked to leave the fitness centre.
For non-students and non-staff: Memberships: $75 per semester or $125 for the year.
For more info on how to obtain an OPUS card, please see Joanne in room 272.

2014 PING CCAA Golf National Championships 
Club de golf Lorette, in Loretteville 
This year, the National Collegial Golf Championship is hosted by Cegep St. Lawrence at Club de golf Lorette, in Loretteville. The tournament takes place from Tuesday October 14th to Friday October 17th (which happens to be during the reading week). This is a nice chance to see high level golfing near us. Eight St.Lawrence athletes will be competing. Come cheer for your Lions at the golf course or follow the event on social media:

GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. and Maj. Marc Dauphin of the Canadian Armed Forces. Tuesday November 11th (Memorial Day) at 12:30 in rooms 348 and 349.

Marc Dauphin is a 60-year-old ex-military physician. He was a civilian ER doctor and a reservist for 27 years before being recalled, at age 54, to serve in uniform again Combat Doctor, his most recent book, presents the stories of the victims of the War in Afghanistan, as told by the last Canadian Officer Commanding at the Kandahar Role 3 Multinational Hospital.

WORKSHOP: APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY

Tuesday, October 21 at 12:30 p.m. in room 242.

 A workshop (short presentation, Q & A period) for students who want to know how to go about applying to university (Québec and Canada). The presentation covers general information; however, we can look at specific questions together. Feel free to bring your lunch. 


If you are applying to university for the winter semester (2015), remember that deadlines to apply to universities in Québec are November 1 when space is limited. Even though there may be room left after November 1st in certain programs or universities, applying by the November 1 deadline will help you when comes the time to select your courses (applying later may further delay this step since your file might be analyzed later).

SAT and SAT SUBJECT Tests
Any student considering studies in the USA should be looking into SAT testing. Click on the following link for Information about the SAT and where to take the test (testing is offered at St. Lawrence in December and in January): http://www.slc.qc.ca/students/sat-testing 
The deadline to register for the December 6 test date is November 6.


Loans and Bursaries from the Province of Quebec
Students who need their Guarantee Certificate, or have questions about loans and bursaries, may contact Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor. Her office is in the library (254). You may also send her a MIO.


Counselling Services
Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor, offers educational and career counselling 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday).  You may contact Nicole Anne by sending her a MIO or dropping in when her door is open (office 254 in the library).
She will check your class schedule and book the first available spot. Appointments are scheduled every day from 8:30 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00. 

DROP-INS: If you do not have an appointment, you may also come during drop-ins (on a a first-come, first-served basis). The next drop-ins are Thursday, October 23 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday, October 30 from 13:00 to 16:00. These periods are not regular counselling meetings, but are for students who have questions and need information.
