Guest Speaker: Arwa Mhanna. Palestinian Refugee at SLC on Thursday, October 2, 12:30 to 13:30, room 347-8-9

Our local Amnesty International SLC group and Oxfam-Quebec invite you to participate in a presentation followed by a discussion with Arwa Mhanna, a Palestinian refugee, who will testify about her experience of the 50-day conflict, the conditions of life in Gaza under the blockade and the challenges faced by Palestinian women and men in Gaza.

Arwa Mhanna, 32, is a Palestinian refugee from Gaza. She holds a Master 's in Translation ( English - French -Arabic ) and over the past seven years, she has worked in communications, humanitarian and human rights for the International Committee of the Red Cross , for the Office of the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights, and finally as head of communications and media for Oxfam in Gaza. She left Gaza during the last military operation.

They offer 30 scholarships valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including mentorship and a summer program, as well as 40 finalist awards ($3,000) and 40 provincial awards ($2,000).

Application forms are now available online. If you wish to apply as a sponsored applicant (the deadline for the regional committee to receive your application is October 22), you must notify Nicole Anne Daigle and submit your application (draft accepted) by October 14 at the latest since sponsored applicants must first be selected by a St. Lawrence selection committee.

For those who are not sponsored, there is a direct pool and applications must be received at the head office in Toronto by October 29. The foundation suggests that applicants get sponsorships. WORKSHOP: APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY

If you are applying to university for the winter semester (2015), remember that deadlines to apply to universities in Québec are November 1 when space is limited. Even though there may be room left after November 1st in certain programs or universities, applying by the November 1 deadline will help you when comes the time to select your courses (applying later may further delay this step since your file might be analyzed later).

SAT and SAT SUBJECT Tests
Any student considering studies in the USA should be looking into SAT testing. Click on the following link for Information about the SAT and where to take the test (testing is offered at St. Lawrence in December and in January): http://www.slc.qc.ca/students/sat-testing 
The deadline to register for the December 6 test date is November 6.

Loans and Bursaries from the Province of Quebec
Students who need their Guarantee Certificate, or have questions about loans and bursaries, may contact Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor. Her office is in the library (254). You may also send her a MIO.

Counselling Services
Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor, offers educational and career counselling 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday).  You may contact Nicole Anne by sending her a MIO or dropping in when her door is open (office 254 in the library).
She will check your class schedule and book the first available spot. Appointments are scheduled every day from 8:30 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00. If you have a quick question, you may also drop in from 8:00 to 8:30 Monday to Thursday.

World of Images Intercollegiate Photo Contest.

How to enter

The contest is reserved for students registered in at least one credit course at a CEGEP (public or private, anglophone or francophone) in Québec in at least one of the following sessions: winter, summer or fall 2014 or winter 2015.
