Thursday, September 25 at 19:30. Where? The beautiful St. Lawrence cafeteria. What is Open Mic? Performers sign up in room 272 (student activities) and perform during showtime for a maximum of 10 minutes You can perform anything you want: Songs, monologues, poetry,music...you name it! Open Mic is like an easygoing coffee shop where students, teachers and staff live out their performance fantasies!
JOBS FOR STUDENTS
Job offered Minor officials
The hockey team is looking for a ticket vendor for all of their home games. This person must be available Saturdays and Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00. And a few evenings, on occasion. The games are usually at Arena Ancienne Lorette. 
 
The Basketball teams are in need of minor officials for their home games. The students applying for this job
must have experience as a basketball minor official. The games are usually held Friday evenings between 18:30 and 23:00 and weekends during the day. Again the  students must be available at these hours.

  Exceptionally the Library will close early
Thursday, September 18th 15:00. 
A special activity is being held in the library on Thursday at the end of the afternoon and the library will be closed to students for the duration.  Classroom 225 has been reserved should you need a study room for that evening.

Don't forget, if all else fails, Joanne Gosselin (room 272) can hook you up with a peer tutor. Drop by her office and fill-out a tutor request form. Within 24 to 48 hours you will be matched with a peer tutor that you can meet as many times as you want, free of charge. Please be advised that tutoring is offered in a limited amount of subjects. World of Images intercollegiate photography contest
 
The Collegial Centre for Educational Materials Development (CCDMD) hosts an annual

World of Images Intercollegiate Photo Contest. 

The CCDMD hands out $3,000 in prizes.

This year, the contest will be held under the honorary presidency of Jacques Nadeau, photojournalist at the daily Le Devoir.

How to enter

The contest is reserved for students registered in at least one credit course at a CEGEP (public or private, anglophone or francophone) in Québec in at least one of the following sessions: winter, summer or fall 2014 or winter 2015.

A career in consumer science?
 
Many students wonder what this program is all about when they hear the name for the first time. To help you understand, a representative from Laval, who is a former graduate, will come and talk about the Baccalauréat en sciences de la consommation. Come to the presentation to understand what this program is really about and what opportunities graduates have. Ms. Kociolek will also talk about her own career path (a mix of communications, business and consumer science). The presentation will be held at St. Lawrence during lunch hour, on Tuesday, September 30.

Important! You must fill out and send the Confirmation of Financial Resources for 2014 form no later than September 18, 2014, even if your income has not changed. Loran Scholars Program

They offer 30 scholarships valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including mentorship and a summer program, as well as 40 finalist awards ($3,000) and 40 provincial awards ($2,000).

Application forms are now available online. If you wish to apply as a sponsored applicant (the deadline for the regional committee to receive your application is October 22), you must notify Nicole Anne Daigle early October since sponsored applicants must first be selected by a St. Lawrence selection committee.

For those who are not sponsored, there is a direct pool and applications must be received at the head office in Toronto by October 29. Carefully read details about sending your application. If you have any questions, you may contact Nicole Anne Daigle.

Information Session on Sherbrooke's Medicine Program at Cégep de Sainte-Foy
The admissions conference will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in room B-140 (Cégep de Sainte-Foy). Students from any CEGEP can register. Give your name, your school name, your phone number and the name of the activity to claudette.chouinard@cegep-ste-foy.qc.ca .

SAT and SAT SUBJECT Tests

ACCESS TO REPÈRES
Students have access to REPÈRES (online database on educational programs and careers) when they log on to their "SLC Webfolio". Use your OMNIVOX username and password to access your SLC Webfolio. Once logged on, you have to go in the section "Understanding the Job Market" and then click on "employment titles" in the left-hand menu.

Counselling Services
Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor, offers educational and career counselling 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday).  
You may contact Nicole Anne by sending her a MIO or dropping in when her door is open (office 254 in the library).
She will check your class schedule and book the first available spot. Appointments are scheduled every day from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Fitness Centre.
Fitness
The fitness centre membership is included with the purchase of the physical education manual. All currently registered students at SLC may use the fitness centre by simply showing their student ID Card (OPUS). You must show proof of attending SLC with your OPUS card. You will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard, supervisor or any staff member or teacher. If you do not have your OPUS Card with you, you will be asked to leave the fitness centre.
For non-students and non-staff: Memberships: $75 per semester or $125 for the year.
