In the team standings, the Lions sit in first place 3 strokes ahead of Cegep Andre Laurendeau. On the individual side, Jerome Blouin was the best Lion, finishing in second place, shooting a 75. He is in second place by 1 stroke. Etienne Papineau finished in third place, 1 stroke behind his teammate Blouin. The next leg of the collegiate circuit will be held Sunday, September 15 in Warwick.

Volunteers Needed for Voice of English-speaking Quebec Annual Fall Fest

Saturday, September 14, 2013. St Vincent Elementary School. We need help for: supervising inflatable games with children, setting up the tables and wiring for information booths, assisting with the tear-down at the end of the day.

 

The day will be divided by shifts so no volunteer need work the whole 9 - 4 pm, and lunch will be provided.

PEER TUTORS WANTED

Tutoring students need help  
The St. Lawrence Peer-Tutoring program is actively looking for tutors to help first or second-year students in the following subjects: Math (Science and Social program), Chemistry, Physics, Macro Economics, Quantitative Methods and Accounting.

If you are interested in offering your services to help fellow students overcome their difficulties in these subjects please see Joanne Gosselin room 272.


Peer tutors must be second or third year students.


Peer tutors are paid by Champlain - St. Lawrence for their tutoring services and it will be up to you to tell me the number of hours you are willing to offer as a peer tutor.


A training session will be held on Tuesday, September 10th at 12:15 in room 268. Bring your lunch and Social Insurance Number.

Dental Aptitude Test

Are you applying to dental schools this year?

You should know about the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT):

 

Students applying to dentistry programs in Québec this year should be aware that some universities will require that you take the Dental Aptitude Test before submitting an application.

Test dates: November and February. The deadline to register for the November test is September 15 and the deadline for the February test date is January 15. The following website will give you information on the test and how to register: http://www.cda-adc.ca/en/dental_profession/dat/ 

 

Important

You must look up information on your future university website to see if the DAT is required and what sections will be evaluated. McGill no longer requires that their applicants take the DAT.

Amnesty International Amnesty International

 Together we do make a difference! If you have an interest in social justice, helping out and volunteer activities, the first meeting of our local Amnesty International SLC group will be held Thursday, September 12 in room 344 from 12h10 to 1h00ish.

 

We will discuss about your interests and look at the projects for the year. Amnesty International SLC is a very informal group where you participate according to your availability and where everyone is warmly welcome.

WILL YOU BE 19 YEARS OLD BY SEPTEMBER 30TH?
RTC OPUS

If so, your RTC (OPUS) card must be updated confirming your student status to keep paying the student price. 

If you are 19 years old or will be by September 30th, you must go to a RTC service centre to have your student status confirmed. To do so, please go to the reception desk to obtain the necessary form.

Counselling

Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor, is on campus three days a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Her office is located in the library in room 254. You may drop in if her door is open or schedule an appointment in person, over the phone or through MIO.   

On Mondays and Fridays, you may see Kim Patenaude, Guidance Counsellor,  if you require assistance.

 

DROP-INS for the fall semester:

 

What are drop-ins? Fridays are dedicated to drop-ins. Kim Patenaude will be available to answer questions about career or educational information on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary! 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - SENIOR CITIZENS
Volunteers work  helping hands In-Home Stimulation Program

 

If you are interested in making a difference in seniors' lives, getting involved in the English-speaking community of Quebec, giving your time to people in need, establishing a meaningful relationship with our seniors: then the In-Home Stimulation Program is for you!

The In -Home Stimulation Program is a great way to complete your community involvement hours often required by Universities in health related programs.

 

What you should know about the program:

  • A variety of activities take place in each participating senior's home
  • Activities may vary from simple home visits to accompanying seniors to run errands
  • A four-hour training session is mandatory
  • You must participate in two sessions in order to get your 60 hours recognition for your report card

Lost and Found Tip of the week from your Reception desk team:

We are only two weeks into the semester and we already have a box full of lost school manuals that you or your parents bought with your/their hard-earned money.  Please, write your name in your school manuals. This way, if your misplaced manual is returned to the reception desk, we will send you a MIO to tell you it is here. If you do not put your name in your manuals, you might never see them again should you misplace them and you will have to pay for another copy.

Book Sale
The SLC bookstore may be found next to the reception desk. The bookstore is open every day between 10:15 and 11:00, also, between 14:00 and 15:00.   Should you require assistance, please go to the reception desk. 

 

Important info on changes for access to the fitness centre.
Fitness As of August 2013, the fitness centre membership is included with the purchase of the physical educaiton manual.You must show proof of attending SLC with your OPUS card. You will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard, supervisor or any staff member or teacher. If you do not have your OPUS Card with you, you will be asked to leave the fitness centre. For more info on how to obtain an OPUS card, please see Joanne in room 272.
