Eco-St. Lo and Amnesty year-end meeting

For our year-end meeting, we will merge our two groups interested in social justice: Amnesty and Eco-St. Lo. Expect a one-hour meeting to quickly report on this year activities and to decide to which Kiva group we will lend the microcredit money we have raised. Our guest, Julie Dubois from Oxfam-Quebec, will talk about the current Oxfam campaigns and also about the ways you can get involved at University level (since several of you will be there soon!!).

For our SLC Lion teams the season is now over.    Congratulations to:

 

AA Women's Basketball: The St. Lawrence Lady Lions AA basketball team won the provincial banner for the first time since the mid-1980's.
A Women's Basketball: Brought home the banner for the regional championship.
Women's Volleyball Team: Brought home the banner for the regional championship.
Rugby Women: Brought home the banner for the regional championship.
Golf:
For the fifth consecutive year, a St. Lawrence Lion is CCAA golf National Champion. Val�rie Tanguay Canadian Collegiate Golf  

ChampionPentathlon des neiges:Champlain - St. Lawrence brought home, for the 2nd year in a row, the Men AND Women's banners for the Inter-collegiate race of the Pentathlon des Neiges and also came back with 2nd position in the Women's category and a 2nd overall (all categories)  

Thank you to all of our athletes for the hard work and dedication. Also a special mention to our Lions Graduates. Good luck with your future plans next fall. Thank you to all our supporters and see you next year.

Fitness The fitness center is open for the summer.

 

Summer membership is $40 and begins Monday, May 6th to Friday August 16th, 2013.
Summer hours are:
Monday to Friday 7:00 to 18:30
Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 pm to 15:30
Lions athletes 2012-2013 memberships are valid for the summer.

All members must show proof of membership and must train in pairs (must be at least two) for security purposes.
Both parties must have a summer membership to the fitness center and will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard or supervisor. Immediate expulsion if one of the users does not have a summer membership to the fitness center.


Volunteers for the 2013 Canada Summer Games

Looking to be part of an incredible experience? This August, join Townshippers' Association for an event that will help you gain experience and skills while exploring another region of Quebec.

 

From August 2 to 17, thousands of visitors, young athletes, coaches and spectators from across the country will gather in Sherbrooke for the 2013 Canada Summer Games. Townshippers' is proud to be part of this historic event and encourage the participation of the English-speaking community.

 

Young adults aged 18-30 living outside of the Eastern Townships can also be part of the excitement by signing up for Townshippers' Homestay program. Participants in the program will not only be able to volunteer for one week during the games but will also stay in the illustrious 177 year old Bishop's College School and take part in a variety of activities that showcase the rich English-speaking culture of the historic Eastern Townships. Food, travel to Sherbrooke and accommodations will all be subsidized.

Cinema Concours international de vid�os : appel de candidatures

 

 La Ville de Qu�bec invite les jeunes, de 14 � 17 ans et de 18 � 21 ans, � participer au deuxi�me concours international de vid�os �Ma ville, notre patrimoine mondial�. Le r�alisateur de Qu�bec, Samuel Matteau, agira � titre de porte-parole du concours et fera la tourn�e des �tablissements scolaires pour en faire la promotion.

Le volet local...

Les jeunes sont invit�s � produire une vid�o et � la d�poser sur le site de partage www.youtube.com d'ici le 31 mai 2013. D'une dur�e maximale de 5 minutes, la vid�o devra porter sur le site patrimonial du Vieux-Qu�bec, lieu inscrit sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 1985. Le formulaire d'inscription ainsi que les r�glements sont disponibles sur le site web de la Ville de Qu�bec : ville.quebec.qc.ca/culture_patrimoine/concours/

Sur le plan local, la Ville de Qu�bec et ses partenaires remettront trois prix dans chaque groupe d'�ge :

  •         500 $ pour le premier prix; une invitation � pr�senter la vid�o au Festival de cin�ma de la Ville de Qu�bec 2013 et un laissez-passer pour le festival; une visite VIP du studio de BEENOX et le jeu The Amazing Spider-Man produit enti�rement par celui-ci;
  •         300 $ pour le deuxi�me prix et une formation au choix parmi le catalogue des formations professionnelles 2013-2014 de SPIRAFILM;
  •         150 $ pour le troisi�me prix.

Les vid�os finalistes de toutes les villes participantes seront ensuite jug�es par un jury international et courront la chance de remporter des prix de 500 $ � 1 000 $.

Hema Quebec The blood drive held on Tuesday, April 16th was once again a donor success. 118 bags of blood. Hema Qu�bec is very very happy and would like to thank the SLC community.

 

 

 

SLC Reaches Out Thursday, April 28, The SLC Reaches Out activity once again had over 100 students and staff donate a few hours of their day to many organizations in the area. A few who were helped out on Thursday: SPA, Meals on Wheels, YWCA, St Brigid's Home, The Morrin Centre, Moisson Qu�bec, Centre communautaire Agap� de Beauport, Centre multi-ethnique de Qu�bec and a few other places. Thank you all once again for all your support.

MS Walk 2013 BAKE SALE FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
On May 26, 2013, we will be hundreds walking to support research on Multiple Sclerosis.
I will be walking especially for M�lanie, my son's wife but also for every person that suffers from this disease.
During the week of April 29, there will be a BAKE SALE to collect funds.

French Tutor for Summer Classes in June 
Tutoring Summer Job Offer

We are looking for strong SLC student who would be interested in tutoring a group of visiting Mexican students during the month of June (mainly for French conversation).   The Intensive French course runs for 4 weeks, from June 3 to June 28, and the tutor would be required for 10-hours-per-week  (Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 13h00-15h00, and Thursday from 13h00 to 17h00).  If interested, please submit your name by May 3rd to Lynne Bernier in Room 231 ([email protected]).
