Battery Recycling Contest
Battery Recycling

From Monday, November 12 to Friday, November 16, it's battery recycling week at St. Lawrence. Bring your used batteries to the front desk and we will take care of their recycling. The three "heaviest" recyclers will win prizes of $40, $20, and $10 respectively. We accept all sorts of domestic batteries (single-use or rechargeable and watch batteries) but sadly we can't take your old car or golf cart battery!

Batteries contain a number of heavy metals and toxic chemicals; their dumping has raised concern over risks of soil contamination and water pollution. The more batteries recycled, the better our environment!

Homophobia

Despite breakthroughs in society's recognition of sexual diversity, homophobia is still active even if the ways in which it surfaces are growing subtler. Our societies recognize that homophobia is a form of discrimination just as any other form of discrimination. Like combating these other forms, people from all communities need to become aware of this issue.

On Tuesday, November 27, SLC will present various activities on the subject of homophobia and how you can help.

12 : 30 to 13 : 15   Testimony of a homosexual couple

Our Lions might give birth to a new cub this winter. Snowshoe running is a fast growing sport that is a great complement to running or to any team sport whose season is over. It helps build leg strength, coordination and cardiovascular capacities like no other sport. St. Lawrence may have a team to participate in four races this coming winter. Everyone is welcome to join. No experience required. If you like running in the great outdoors, you will like snowshoe running! An information meeting is planned for November 27 at 12:15pm in Rm268.  For more info, contact Martin Beaumont at: mbeaumont@slc.qc.ca

Cross-country National championships:

Two weeks ago, our SLC  X-country running team finished its season on a very positive note. The team finished in  a very good and promising position at the last Provincial championships.

Veteran runner Simon Delisle led his rookie teammates to an overall ranking of 8 out of 32 teams in a very difficult race on the Plains of Abraham, Québec. Despite being composed of 3 members only, the women`s team managed to rank a respectable 16 out of 30at the end of that same race.

This excellent finish earned the men`s team a participation in the National championships held in Longueuil on November 10. The best 200 collegiate runners from across the country attended this prestigious event.  Our boys ran their hearts out and it was a very positive experience for most of the rookie team, who helped bring our Lions to their first nat'l championships in 5 years.
