The Duke Global Health Institute's goal is to prepare leaders in global health at all levels of their education. At the doctoral level, DGHI has two opportunities for students to explore concepts in global health, and actively engage in research that addresses health disparities and relates to their primary field of study.

 U.S. and African Med Students Connect in DGHI's First Cross-Continental Journal Club
Using live videoconferencing technology, medical students from Duke and the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMC) in Tanzania were able to exchange ideas on cancer as part of today's Global Health Journal Club. It is one way DGHI is pushing the boundaries on what is possible in educating the next generation of global health leaders. The discussion was led by student facilitators from both institutions, including Duke medical student Manisha Bhattacharya. The conversation was organized by DGHI Associate Director for Research John Bartlett, the lead DGHI collaborator with KCMC.

 Duke-led Cardiac Care Unit in Kenya Sees First Patient
Western Kenya now has its first cardiac care unit, thanks to the work of Duke physicians and partners at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. Last week, the four-bed cardiac care unit admitted its first patient. Duke and its Kenyan colleagues have been working since 2009 to improve the delivery of clinical cardiovascular care through the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases Center of Excellence at Eldoret's Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
