
Maternal Health Clinic Design Influenced by MSc-GH Graduate
As Marnie Cooper-Priest completed the Duke Master of Science in Global Health, she dreamed of improved services for expectant mothers and their newborns in Fondwa, Haiti, where she conducted her fieldwork with Durham-based NGO and DGHI partner, Family Health Ministries (FHM). Six months later, she is now advising FHM on the layout of a new maternal health clinic to provide the care she envisioned.

 DGHI Awards Grants for International Travel The Duke Global Health Institute is helping faculty build research international global health research collaborations with institutional partners through the Small International Travel Grant program. This fall, DGHI has awarded grants Nadia El-Shaarawi (Kenan Institute for Ethics), Liping Feng (OB/GYN), Catherine Lynch (Emergency Medicine), and Elizabeth Turner (Biostatistics and Bioinformatics) for travel to the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa.  |
 Former U.S. Surgeon General to Discuss Global Health Disparities
Former U.S. Surgeon General, David Satcher, M.D., PhD, will discuss methods to eliminate health disparities around the world at the Duke University School of Nursing's 6th Annual Global Health Lecture and Research Seminar on Jan. 24, 2013. Satcher's keynote address, "Defining the Path to Global Health Equity," will illustrate examples of major strategies and programs that are improving science, policy and practice around the world. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Duke University School of Nursing, Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives, Office of Research Affairs, and the Duke Global Heath Institute.  |
