Church Celebrations

The Shack is Back

Now that the renovations have been completed, The Net has resumed their weekly Wednesday youth group meetings in The Shack.  5th Quarter is also using The Shack as a game room.

After cleaning out the contents, the renovations in The Shack consisted of installation of:  insulation, paneling, corrugated metal ceiling, ceiling fans, lights, air conditioning units, sound system, TV, and much more.  The work was completed by members of our own Building & Grounds Team:  Richard Calloway, Fred Kurtz, Paul Nixon, Larry Sage, and Tim Hobson (not pictured).  What a blessing these guys are to FIPC!

New Deacons Ordained

Three new Deacons were ordained this past Sunday during worship.  Carissa Hogan, Ronnie Overstreet, and Rita Veres are already active and serving on Ministry Teams.  Their first official day on the job, they were photographed together at a Ministry Team Leaders' Meeting!

When 5th Quarter Began

5th Quarter this past Friday was sponsored by The Haznedl Family. Dave Haznedl was a volunteer Director of Youth at FIPC before Mike Horst was hired.  Dave, along with his wife Kristie, started our 5th Quarter youth community outreach back in 2007.  Even though they have since moved to Daytona, they continue to provide financial support for it.  In our first season, a wildly successful night was 20 youth. Now, in our eighth season, we anticipate crowds of over 600 youth at each event.  Back then, we would order a few pizzas and bring two 12 packs of soda to feed the youth. Now, it takes a community of restaurants to feed the masses.  This past Friday, food was donated by:  Chili's, Mojos, LongHorn Steakhouse, O'Charley's, Tijuana Flats, and Whataburger. 5th Quarter events would not be possible without the support of our financial and food donors.  Thank you!

Back to Church Sunday
September 28 @ 10:00 am

Worship Building Sanctuary

National Back To Church Sunday began as a movement to invite everyone in America back to church by empowering and motivating church members to invite their family and friends to come with them to a special service hosted by the local church.

The movement was spurred on by a couple of statistics:
  • If invited, 82% of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend.
  • Only 2% of Christians EVER invite someone to church!
FIPC has declared September as "Back To Church Month." The official National Back To Church Sunday is September 21. Since that is the weekend of our Women's Retreat, we will celebrate "Back To Church Sunday" on September 28.  FIPC's motto is "Helping People To Love God and Love Others."  We accomplish this through INVESTING and INVITING...investing in our family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers by inviting them to church.

We challenge you to attend worship each Sunday in September and invite someone to join you!

This Week's Devotional

"Witnesses Just Share What They've Seen God Do"

by Rick Warren

PurposeDriven.com

This Week's Devotional

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)

Everybody you see this week has a hidden hurt. And everybody you meet this week needs a massive dose of hope. When you share hope, you'll have a willing audience.

The hope that best helps people is the hope from somebody who says, "Been there, done that." That's how God wants to use you. God wants you to be a hope dispenser by sharing your experiences and what God has done for you.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" (NIV). God wants you to be his witness.

Most people are scared to death to be a witness. They think a witness means they have to explain why Jesus died on the cross, quote Scripture verses from memory, and know a bunch of theology and doctrine.

You don't have to know a single Bible verse to be a witness. Do you know the difference between a witness and an attorney? It is the job of the attorney to press the case, to show the evidence, and to ask for a decision. Not once in Scripture does Jesus say, "You will be my attorney." It's not your job to convince people to accept Christ. That's the Holy Spirit's job. You're not called to be an attorney. But you are called and commanded by God to be a witness.

What do witnesses do? They say, "This is what I saw. I saw the blue car run into the red car." Are you an expert on cars? No. Do you know anything else? No. You just share what you've seen. That's called being a witness.

How does God want you to be a witness this week to the unbelievers in your life who are hurting and need hope? He wants you to say, "Pain really got my attention. Let me tell you what I learned. I learned that I need people in my life when I'm going through pain. I learned that God is all I need. You don't know God is all you need until God is all you've got. I learned that God's going to hang with me no matter what."

You share the lessons you've learned through your pain. You say, "Let me tell you about a time that something bad happened to me but God brought good out of it." That's what God commands you to do - pass on your hope.
