FIPC Newsletter

Issue 28 Volume 12  - Week of July 13, 2014

From Dr. Jim Weldon, Jr.

Dear FIPC Church Family,

Below is an affirmation of a young African pastor. He has it posted in his house. A missionary took a picture of it and posted it on the internet. The Church in Africa is growing in leaps and bounds. Why? Because people are on fire for Jesus and see it as their duty to take as many people as possible to heaven with them.  People are doing their best to live out their faith in Jesus by practicing spiritual disciplines of: corporate worship; prayer; Bible reading and study; giving their time, talent, and treasure; and sharing their faith with anyone and everyone who will listen. May this be our testimony as well:

* "I'm part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit's power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I'm HIS disciple. I will not look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure.
* I'm finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals.
* I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity.
* I do not have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, popular, liked, regarded, or rewarded.
* I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, live by prayer, and labor by power and love.
* My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is crystal clear.
* I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed.
* I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
* I won't give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ.
* I am a disciple of Jesus.
* I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me.
* And when He comes for His own, He will have no problems recognizing me - my banner will be clear!"

May this be our affirmation as well!   Be sure to check out this week's devotional below--"Put God First In Your Finances Through Tithing."

Remember God is good! All The Time!

Grace and Peace,
Jim

"Put God First In Your Finances Through Tithing"

by Rick Warren

PurposeDriven.com

This Week's Devotional

"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
(Matthew 6:33 NIV)

One of the best known and most successful business leaders of Southern California once told me, "Rick, you need to tell people the best time to start tithing is when they're in debt. That's when they need the most help."

Whatever you want God to bless in your life, you put him first in that area. You want God to bless your business? Put him first in your business. You want God to bless your marriage? Put him first in your marriage. You want God to bless your time? Put him first in your time. You want God to bless your finances? Put him first in your finances.

Whatever you put God first in, that's what he blesses. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (NIV). You have to decide that you're going to tithe and you're going to save, even if it means you live on less so you can do those two things.

You can live on any amount you have to. It is a choice. Nobody made you drive that kind of car, live in that kind of house, or pay those kinds of bills.

God wants you to give, and he wants you to save. If you tithe 10 percent and save 10 percent, that means you live on 80 percent of your income.

Let's say your family income is $60,000 a year and you started this plan at age 40. Over the next twenty years, by age 60, you will have given $120,000 to God's purposes in the world and you would still have more than $120,000 set aside in your investments or your savings.

It may mean big changes for your family. It may mean you make sacrifices and give up some things. But it works! There are enormous payoffs. God will always honor the areas where you put him first.

The Bible says, "The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives" (Deuteronomy 14:23 LB).
