FIPC Newsletter

Issue 21 Volume 12  - Week of May 25, 2014

From Dr. Jim Weldon, Jr.

Dear FIPC Church Family,

Great news!  Our building loan refinance was approved.  Our new lender, First Atlantic Bank, has been phenomenal to deal with.  They have far exceeded our expectations during this process and we look forward to our new business relationship.  They were able to reduce our interest rate by 1.15%, resulting in an anticipated reduction in our monthly payment of about $1,600.  The term of the loan is five years, which is typical for this type of loan.

The Presbytery of St. Augustine will continue to pay the loan on our property and generously agreed to continue to be a guarantor on our building loan.  Without their financial support, our property and building would not exist today. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

We also need to thank Dawn Vanderpool, in conjunction with our Finance Committee (Joe Perry, Burl White, and Ron Dryden), for the tireless efforts with this refinancing project over the past year.  Loan applications were submitted and pursued with multiple banks, prior to securing the loan with First Atlantic Bank.  We are blessed to have this group of dedicated and committed individuals overseeing the finances of FIPC.

What's next?  The loan will close within the next 30 days. Depending on the closing date, we will need to pay anywhere between $15,000 and $30,000 in closing costs. That will effectively deplete our Building Fund reserves. Last month we only received $5,300 in Income from Building Fund offerings.  That is about one half of what is needed to make our monthly mortgage payment.

How can you help?  If you pledged to our 3 year First Fruits Building Fund campaign and are current on your pledge, we thank you.  If you pledged and are not current on your pledge, please take this opportunity to catch-up on your contribution.  If you did not pledge or have not been offered the opportunity to pledge, please contact our CFO & Church Administrator, Dawn Vanderpool, for more information.  You may also go to the First Fruits Ministry campaign page on our web site to see all of the information that was disseminated during our campaign last year.  Your prayerful consideration of a gift or pledge to the FIPC Building Fund is really appreciated.  Your financial support of God's vision for His church here on Fleming Island is vital.

Finally, thank you for praying for our building loan refinance! It is just another way God reminds us that He is Good!  All the time!

Your pastor and friend...

 Jim Weldon

This Week's Devotional

"Have You Ever Suffered From "Gift-envy"?"

by Rick Warren

PurposeDriven.com

This Week's Devotional

"Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God's Spirit."

(1 Corinthians 2:14a TEV)

You can't earn your spiritual gifts or deserve them - that's why they are called gifts! They're an expression of God's grace to you: "Christ has generously divided out his gifts to us" (Ephesians 4:7 CEV).

Nor do you get to choose which gifts you'd like to have. Paul explains that God determines that "it is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have" (1 Corinthians 12:11 NLT).

Because God loves variety, and he wants us to be special, there's no one single gift given to everyone, and no individual receives all the gifts. If you had them all, you'd have no need of anyone else, and that would defeat one of God's purposes - to teach us to depend on each other.

Your spiritual gifts were not given for your own benefit but for the benefit of others, just as other people were given gifts for your benefit. The Bible says, "A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other" (1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT). When we use our gifts together, we all benefit. If others don't use their gifts, you get cheated, but if you don't use your gifts, they get cheated. This is why God wants us to discover and develop our spiritual gifts.

Whenever we forget these basic truths about gifts, it always causes trouble in the church. Two common problems are "gift-envy" and "gift-projection."
  • The first occurs when we compare our gifts to others, feel dissatisfied with what God gave us, and become resentful or jealous of how God uses others.
  • The second problem happens when you expect everyone else to have your gifts, do what you're called to do, and feel as passionate about it as you do. The Bible says, "There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord" (1 Corinthians 12:5 NLT).

Sometimes spiritual gifts are overemphasized to the neglect of the other factors that God uses to shape you for service. So keep in mind, your gifts reveal one part of God's will for your ministry, but not all of it.
