FIPC Newsletter

Issue 17 Volume 12  - Week of April 27, 2014

From Dr. Jim Weldon, Jr.

Dear FIPC Church Family,

What a wonderful weekend!

1.  Car Show - We partnered with Clay County Cruzers to raise money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund.  According to their web site, the Yellow Ribbon Fund has the following goals:

The military provides world-class care while injured service members are in the hospital. But sometimes gaps open up between the support the military can provide and the support the injured and their families need. The Yellow Ribbon Fund helps bridge the gaps while they're recovering in the Washington, DC, area at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Even after they return to their hometowns, YRF continues to help. (http://www.yellowribbonfund.org)

2. Men's Great Banquet - 5 men participated! See the Church Celebrations block below for more details.

This Saturday is our 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament.  The Golf Tournament will be held at the Golf Club at Fleming Island.  Registration begins at 11:30 am.  See the Church Announcements block below for more details.

Remember, God is good, all the time!

Your pastor and friend...

 Jim Weldon

This Week's Devotional

"God's Unlimited Resources Are Available To You"

by Rick Warren

PurposeDriven.com

This Week's Devotional

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."

 (Colossians 3:1-2 NIV)

As you work to become Daniel Strong, stress will undoubtedly try to pull you away from your goals. The problems of everyday life often tempt us to make unhealthy choices out of convenience or as a temporary fix for handling stress.

But the truth is, problems will follow you the rest of your life. If you're waiting to deal with stress until you make it to a new stage in your life, you'll be waiting a long time!

Colossians 3:1-2 says, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (NIV).

Stress is a choice. We get stressed out when we choose to focus on our own limited resources instead of focusing on the unlimited resources available through our heavenly Father.

You'll never get healthy by trying to overcome obstacles through your own willpower; it simply isn't strong enough. Focus on the fact that God is big enough to get you through any challenges you face in the Daniel Plan and for the rest of your life.
