Issue 36 Volume 11  - Week of September 15, 2013

From Rev. Jim Weldon

Dear FIPChurch Family,

Excerpts from Dr. Weldon's Message on Sunday:

This sounds strange but: learning how to serve, is the key to true significance in life!  This is not a new idea - it is God's plan for you and me from the very beginning of time.  If we are going to learn how to serve Christ in an effective way, we need to be able to see ourselves as His servant.  We may say we WANT to serve, but too often we see ourselves as one who deserves TO BE served.

Christ's call is to SERVICE, but too often in our culture we turn it into SERVE-US!  Let me give you an example: This "SERVE-US" happens when we approach Christ and His Church with the attitude: What can Jesus do for me?  What can the Church do for me?

So what do we do?  We "church shop" as if Christ's Church is some commodity.  We hop around from church to church and never really make a commitment to Christ - a commitment to Christ, is a commitment to His church!

The work place of God's servants is the Church.  To say "I am a follower of Jesus Christ" and not SERVE in the Church is absurd.  Jesus died for the Church and is the Head of the Church, and if we are going to FOLLOW Him, we need to be where He is - i.e. at Church.

Come and here the rest of this exciting series!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
"God Wants to Give You Freedom"
by  Rick Warren
from: PurposeDriven.com

"If the Son sets you free, then you will be really free." (John 8:36 TEV)

The world defines freedom as a life without any restraint - "I can do anything I want to do and say anything I want to say without anybody telling me what to do." You may burn everybody else, but you get to do it your own way. The world says you can have your freedom, but only by being totally selfish.

Yet, the Bible says the only way to true freedom is through Jesus: "If the Son sets you free, then you will be really free" (John 8:36 TEV).

Real freedom is freedom from fear, guilt, worry, bitterness, and death. You're free to quit pretending because you're free to be yourself.

How do you get rid of those kinds of fears? By letting God love you! The apostle John teaches that "there is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear" (1 John 4:18a NIV).

When you realize how much God loves you, you'll begin to live in true freedom. In fact, you worship God when you recognize that "God is love." It is an act of worship to agree that he is a loving, caring, generous God and that we can "rely on the love God has for us" (1 John 4:16).

This Week's Funnies

When the lodge meeting broke up, John confided to a friend. "Mike, I'm in a terrible pickle! I'm strapped for cash and I haven't the slightest idea where I'm going to get it from!" "I'm glad to hear that" answered Mike. "I was afraid you might have an idea you could borrow it from me!"

Harry walked over to the Priest after services, "You know Father, I am really stuck in a quandary I would like to attend church next week but I just can't miss the big game next Sunday, it's just out of the question." "Oh Harry Harry" said the Priest putting his arm around Harry, "don't you know? that's what recorders are for." Harry's face lit up "you mean I could record your sermon?"
