Dear FIPC Church Family,
"Awe Struck Wonder"
Can you remember a time in your life that you were stricken with a sense of immense wonder and awe? A time when your breath was taken away, your eyes wide with amazement, and your heart filled with joy and happiness? It may sound corny, but for me it was when I saw the Smokey Mountains for the first time on a youth mission trip to Tennessee. We also had the pleasure of driving through Cades Cove, and found ourselves in the heart of the Smokey Mountains. I remember the majesty of it all, and the tremendous beauty and serenity these mountains portrayed. All I wanted to do was build a house in the middle of those mountains, and sit on the porch in total relaxation (...or at least until the mosquitoes started to bite). It made me think that our God truly is an artist, and the amount of time He spent creating these peaceful mountains, pales in comparison to the amount of time He spent on you and me. We have been created in the very image of God-to be like Him, to feel like Him, and to love like Him. We were created to live not only in a community with Him, but in a community with each other. In fact, the Greek word for "church" carries the same connotative weight as it does for community. It is a body of believers who dwell together in unity with one another, and who share in the awe and wonderment of our Lord, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.
In the Book of Acts, there's a great description of how a community of believers should experience the life and passion of the Holy Spirit. It describes people who were "pierced to the heart" after hearing the words preached by the Apostle Peter, who received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. It states, "Everyone was in awe-all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person's need was met. They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved." Acts 2:43-47 (MSG).It is our prayer, hope, and focus that this summer we, a community of believers at Fleming Island Presbyterian Church, experience the awe, wonder, and exuberant joy of Jesus Christ. It is our hope that just as the mighty wind came upon the frightened disciples and gave life to their mission, that we too experience that same mighty wind. We want you to journey with us this summer, as we dive into the teachings and wonders of Jesus Christ. We want to see your eyes wide with amazement, smiles brightened with joy, and hearts full of wonder and happiness. Worshiping Jesus is supposed to be fun right? So let's have a blast! Your brother in Christ, Mike Horst Director of Worship and Church Ministries

This Week's Funnies
|
"Somebody has well said there are only two kinds of people in the world. There are those who wake up in the morning and say, "Good morning, Lord," and there are those who wake up in the morning and say, "Good Lord, it's morning."
A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter. Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 10 times. If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment. Forgive us our trespasses."
When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note. "I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation."
