Issue 14 Volume 11  - Week of April 14, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear FIPC Church Family,

Join me in welcoming our newest members:

Jason Hersperger - Jason is in the US Navy and engaged to Laura Petrillo.

Philip & Kelley Hart - Philip & Kelley have three children, Landon (4), Adaline (almost 2) and Jillian (5 weeks.)  Philip is our Director of Youth and Kelley is a stay at home mom.

Tracy Thomas - Tracy is in management.  He has a son, Tanner, who attends Fleming Island High.

We are having a GREAT response to First Fruit Ministry!  More and more people are catching the vision, getting excited and deciding to partner with God to accomplish the ministry He wants done here at FIPC!

Over the last few weeks, we have sent out important information about what it takes to do ministries here at FIPC.  Please read through this information carefully and consider how you can partner with God and this church to help make that happen.  Prayerfully consider your financial commitment to God and this church by bringing a simple tithe.

This coming Sunday April 21st, we are asking everyone to turn in a First Fruits Ministry Commitment card.  You will receive these cards in the mail this week and they will be in your church bulletin on Sunday.  This is a card in which you can estimate how you plan to respond to God's call to bring the First Fruit to God.  After worship, we will have a free BBQ luncheon (Catered from Mojo's) to celebrate everyone's commitment to God in bringing their First Fruits. Please RSVP by calling 904-269-2412.

The leadership of this church is behind our First Fruits Ministry and will lead by example and turn in their commitments first.  We will then report to you the total amount committed by the Elders, Deacons and Staff of our church.

God is doing GREAT things in and through this church!  As I always say, God is good!  All the time!!

God is good! All the time!!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

This Week's Devotional
Cape Tribulation
by: Dennis Fisher

On June 10, 1770, British navigator James Cook's ship hit a reef off the northeast coast of Australia. He sailed the ship out into deeper water only to hit the reef again, and this time the collision almost sank the ship. This experience moved Cook to write in the ship's log: "The north point [was named] Cape Tribulation because here began all our troubles."

Many of us have experienced a trial that has seemed to trigger a string of other trials. The loss of a job, the death of a loved one, an unwanted divorce, or a decline in health could all be part of the list.

Even though a crisis may seem to be our "Cape Tribulation," God is still sovereign and He most certainly is in control. It is His purpose to use tribulation to build resilience into us. James writes: "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience" (James 1:2-3). The word translated "patience" means to have staying power or the ability to endure.

In the midst of your life-changing trial, remember that God is still at work. He wants to use your "Cape Tribulation" experience to build your character. He has promised His grace to see you through (2 Cor. 12:9).

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, He sendeth more strength when the labors increase; To added affliction He addeth His mercy, To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

Faith grows best in the winter of trial. -Rutherford
This Week's Funnies

We occasionally stumble over the truth but most of us pick ourselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.

A man stopped at a local gas station and after filling his tank, he paid the bill and bought a soft drink.

He stood by his car to drink his cola and watched a couple of men working along the roadside. One man would dig a hole two or three feet deep and then move on. The other man came along behind him and filled in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was 25 feet behind filling in the hole. The men worked right past the guy with the soft drink and went on down the road.

"I can't stand this," said the man tossing the can into a recycle container and heading down the road toward the men. "Hold it, hold it," he said to the men. "Can you tell me what's going on here with all this digging and refilling?"

"Well, we work for the government and we're just doing our job," one of the men said.

"But one of you is digging a hole and the other fills it up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting the taxpayers' money?"

"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said, leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally there's three of us: me, Greg and Matt. I dig the hole, Greg sticks in the tree, and Matt here puts the dirt back. Greg's job's been cut so now it's just me an' Matt."

A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running to church as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class.

As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!"

While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again.

As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! But please don't shove me either!"

Some people develop eye strain looking for trouble.

Cartoonist found dead in home. Details are sketchy.

My old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs, cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.
