FIPC Newsletter

Issue 12 Volume 11  - Week of March 24, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

What an awesome week we have ahead of us.

Please join us for a powerful service on Holy Thursday March 28, at 7 pm. This is a Communion service held on the Thursday before Easter where we remember Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples and the events leading to His crucifixion.

This Saturday, March 30 from 1-2:30 pm is our annual Community Easter Egg Hunt Rain Date! Join us for games, egg hunt, crafts, balloons, food, and a visit from the Easter Bunny.  There is still time to provide stuffed plastic eggs with non-chocolate candy, small toys, and/or cookies for refreshments.

This Easter we will have 2 worship services: Sunrise Service at 7 am at Eagle Harbor Golf Club under the big tent and 10 am in the Sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Most people are waiting to be asked.

Easter is the Highest and Holiest day of the Christian year! May God bless you with His joy this Easter season!

"Jesus said ... 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die'" (John 11:25-26)

God is good! All the time!!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

TWO NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDIES

"Paul, and his letter to the ROMANS"
  • Led by       Mike Horst
  • Starting April 3
  • Wednesdays
  • 7-8:30 pm
  • ROCK Room

The writings of the Apostle Paul make up the majority of the New Testament.  We will study the life of Paul, as well as his most informative and transformational letter-Romans.  Many call the letter to the Romans, Paul's gospel, as it contains clear explanations of salvation, grace, and God's righteousness.  Be prepared for spirit led conversations, challenging questions, and Christian fellowship.

"NOT A FAN"
  • Led by Scott & Joie McGee
  • Starting April 10
  • Sundays
  • 11:30 am - 12:30pm
  • Classroom 2
  • Childcare provided upon request

Jesus is NOT looking for fans...
He's looking for followers.
Followers who understand that...

There is no forgiveness without repentance.
There is no salvation without surrender.
There is no life without death.
There is no believing without following.

Stanfill's past is really a story about an almighty God who calls His people to praise. That call has been unmistakable in Stanfill's life, even as that 15-year-old growing up in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta, finding the connection between the strings of a guitar and the Maker of music. This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional

Who looks forward to turning on the news these days? All we seem to hear about are problems. People are losing jobs and savings. A person can get depressed listening to it all, and many people are fearful. If you are facing hardship during these tough times, my heart goes out to you.

Life isn't always fair or easy. You may feel you do not know where to turn. But one of the Bible's greatest truths is this: God never abandons us when life becomes difficult. He is always with us and wants to help us, even when things seem to be going wrong. He does not guarantee to reverse every misfortune, but if Christ lives in our hearts, we have His promise that nothing "in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord

" (Romans 8:39).

What a guarantee! Instead of being fearful about the future, this Easter we can trust and believe that God is working a purpose in our lives. We can have hope!

Despite troubles and bad news, are you able to rejoice in the Gospel-the Good News of your salvation in Christ Jesus?

This Week's Funnies

A fellow slid his car off a road and ended up in a ditch. A farmhouse was nearby so the motorist asked the owner if he had a tractor he could borrow to get his truck back on the road.
"Nope, but I got my mule, Blue," said the farmer.
"I doubt a mule is strong enough to pull my truck out."
"You don't know Blue," said the mule's proud owner.
So Blue was hitched to the truck. "Pull, Blue!" The truck didn't move. And the farmer then called out, "Pull, Elmer!" The truck moved a little. Then the farmer yelled, "Pull, Biscuit," and the truck was free.
"Thank you so much," said the truck owner. "But I have a question. You called your mule by three different names. How is that?"
"Simple," said the farmer. "Blue is blind. And if he thought he was the only one pulling, your truck would still be in the ditch!"

The banker had called the man in to talk about his account. "Your financial affairs are in a mess. Your wife constantly overdraws your account. She is behind in her charge accounts at the department store, and her check stubs are all added wrong. Why don't you talk to her about it?"

"Because," said the man, "I would rather argue with you than with her."

Guy 1: "It's the wife's birthday today. Last week I asked her what she wanted as a present."

Guy 2: "So what did she ask for?"

Guy 1: "She said, 'Oh, I don't know, just give me something with diamonds.'

And so I'm giving her a deck of playing cards."

Removing all risks from your life renders faith unnecessary. Faith requires risks!

"Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives and God's plans, but God is not helpless among the ruins. Our broken lives are not lost or useless. God comes in and takes the calamity and uses it victoriously, working out his wonderful plan of love." - Eric Liddell

Only dead fish swim with the stream.

The local sheriff was looking for a deputy, so Tommy - who was not exactly the sharpest nail in the bucket went in to try out for the job.

"Okay," the sheriff drawled, "Tommy, what is 1 and 1?"

"11" he replied. The sheriff thought to himself, "That's not what I meant, but he's right."

"What two days of the weekstart with the letter 'T'?"

"Today and tomorrow." He was again surprised that Tommy supplied a correct answer that he had never thought of himself.

"Now Tommy, listen carefully: Who killed Abraham Lincoln?"

Tommy looked a little surprised himself, then thought really hard for a minute and finally admitted, "I don't know."

"Well, why don't you go home and work on that one for a while?"

So, Tommy wandered over to the pool hall where his pals were waiting to hear the results of the interview. Tommy was exultant.

"It went great! First day on the job and I'm already working on a murder case!"
