Issue 11 Volume 11  - Week of March 17, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

This past Friday evening in our Sanctuary, 22 Junior High Youth stood before the Lord and their parents and took vows to remain sexually pure until marriage. The parents presented their children with purity rings and instructed these young men and women to wear their rings on the ring finder of their left hand as a sign to their future spouse of their sexual purity. This all was the culmination of a 4-week course called "True Love Waits." Thank you to our leaders who played a role in this amazing event.

Events to look forward to this Easter Season:

Easter is almost here! Join us on March 24 from 3-4:30 pm for our annual Community Easter Egg Hunt! In order for us to provide this outreach to our community, we need your help. Please donate stuffed plastic eggs with non-chocolate candy, small toys, individually wrapped candy, and/or cookies for refreshments.

Please join us for a powerful service on Holy Thursday March 28, at 7 pm. This is a Communion service held on the Thursday before Easter where we remember Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples and the events leading to His crucifixion.

This Easter we will have 2 worship services: Sunrise Service at 7 am at Eagle Harbor Golf Club under the big tent and 10 am in the Sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Most people are waiting to be asked.

God is good! All the time!!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

"Paul, and his letter to Romans"

The writings of the Apostle Paul make up the majority of the New Testament.  We will study the life of Paul, as well as his most informative and transformative letter-Romans.  Many call the letter to the Romans, Paul's gospel, as it contains clear explanations of salvation, grace, and God's righteousness.  Be prepared for spirit led conversations, challenging questions, and Christian fellowship.

Thanks and Prayer Requests

Paryer Requests
Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving:

Live for God.

Matthew 6:25-33 (NIV)
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
by: David H. Roper

When our granddaughter Sarah was very young, she told us she wanted to be a basketball coach like her daddy when she grew up. But she couldn't be one yet, she said, because first she had to be a player; and a player has to be able to tie her shoelaces, and she couldn't tie hers yet!

First things first, we say. And the first thing in all of life is to know God and enjoy Him.

Acknowledging and knowing God helps us to become what we were meant to be. Here is King David's counsel to his son Solomon: "Know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind" (1 Chron. 28:9).

Remember, God can be known. He is a Person, not a logical or theological concept. He thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, and desires as any person does. A. W. Tozer writes, "He is a person and can be known in increasing degrees of intimacy as we prepare our hearts for the wonder of it." Ah, there's the rub: We must "prepare our hearts."

The Lord is not playing hard to know; those who want to know Him can. He will not foist His love on us, but He does wait patiently, for He wants to be known by you. Knowing Him is the first thing in life.

He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own;
And the joys we share as we tarry there.  None other has ever known.
The thought of God staggers the mind but to know Him satisfies the heart.

This Week's Funnies

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

A businessman well known for his ruthlessness once announced to writer Mark Twain, "Before I die I mean to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I will climb Mount Sinai and read the 10 Commandments aloud at the top."

"I have a better idea," replied Twain. "You could stay in Boston and keep them."

"Gee, Mom," said the teenager to her mother. "I can't seem to find a really nice guy."

"Well, what do you look for in a man, dear?"

"Character. To me, a man's physical appearance, age and financial position are irrelevant."

"Then have you met Mrs. Hart's son?"

"Hart? Hart? Isn't he that funny-looking kid who's always broke?"

A trio of old veterans were bragging and jokes about the heroic exploits of their ancestors one afternoon down at the VFW hall.

"My great grandfather, at age 13," one declared proudly, "was a drummer boy at Shiloh."

"Mine," boasts another, "went down with Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn."

"I'm the only soldier in my family," confessed vet number three, "but if my great grandfather was living today he'd be the most famous man in the world."

"Really? What'd he do?" his friends wanted to know.

"Nothing much. But he would be 165 years old."

When I returned home from college for a break, I noticed a paper posted on the refrigerator. It listed some goals my dad had set for himself: Help wife more; lose weight; be more productive at work.

I promptly added: "Send Michelle money every month."

A few days later my brother wrote: "Make payments on car for Jason."

Then my boyfriend joined in with: "Buy Tom a Jeep."

Finally my father added a new goal to his amended list: "Wean kids."
When I Grow Up When Ruth's grandson Jordan was 5, he always told everyone he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up. One day he was running through the house and into the corner of a chair and hurt his eye. He cried for a while and kept saying, "Oh no, oh no, now I can't be a doctor when I grow up."

Ruth assured him he could still be a doctor and Jordan kept telling her he couldn't.

Finally she asked, "Why can't you be a doctor?"
