FIPC Newsletter

Issue 10 Volume 11  - Week of March 10, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

Congratulations to our First Class of Deacons:

Charles Bowling, Duke Duncan, Tim Hobson, Rebecca Like, and Sandy May.

Please join us for a powerful service on Holy Thursday March 28, at 7 pm. This is a Communion service held on the Thursday before Easter where we remember Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples and the events leading to His crucifixion.

Easter is only a couple weeks away. This Easter we will have 2 worship services. Sunrise Service at 7 am at Eagle Harbor Golf Club under the big tent and 10 am in the sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Most people are waiting to be asked.

God is doing great things in and through this church! Be a part of it! You will get out of it what you put into it.

God is good! All the time!!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

"Paul, and his letter to Romans"

The writings of the Apostle Paul make up the majority of the New Testament.  We will study the life of Paul, as well as his most informative and transformative letter-Romans.  Many call the letter to the Romans, Paul's gospel, as it contains clear explanations of salvation, grace, and God's righteousness.  Be prepared for spirit led conversations, challenging questions, and Christian fellowship.

"NOT A FAN"

  • Led by Scott & Joie McGee
  • Starting April 10
  • Sundays
  • 11:30 am - 12:30pm
  • Class Room 2

Jesus is NOT looking for fans...
He's looking for followers.
Followers who understand that...

There is no forgiveness without repentance.
There is no salvation without surrender.
There is no life without death.
There is no believing without following.

Thanks and Prayer Requests

Paryer Requests
Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving:

Faith always leads to action:

"So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all---it is dead and useless.

Now someone may argue, "Some people have faith; others have good deeds." I say, "I can't see your faith if you don't have good deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds."

James 2:17-18 (NLT)

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
by: David C. McCasland

With the hope of winning a record jackpot of $640 million, Americans spent an estimated $1.5 billion on tickets in a multistate lottery in early 2012. The odds of winning were a staggering 1 in 176 million, but people stood in lines at grocery stores, gas stations, and cafes to buy a chance to become rich. Something inside us makes us think more money will solve our problems and improve our lives.

A man identified in the Bible as Agur had a different perspective on riches when he asked God to grant him two requests before he died.

First, he said, "Remove falsehood and lies far from me" (Prov. 30:8). Integrity is a key to living without anxiety. When we have nothing to hide, we have nothing to fear. Deceit enslaves; honesty liberates. Second, he said, "Give me neither poverty nor riches-feed me with the food allotted to me" (v.8). Contentment springs from trusting God as our supplier and gratefully accepting what He provides. Agur said of the Creator that He "established all the ends of the earth. . . . He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him" (vv.4-5).

Integrity and contentment are riches of the soul that are available to all. Our Lord is pleased to give these treasures to everyone who asks.

Contentment does not come from wealth-
It's not something you can buy;
Contentment comes to give you peace
When you depend on God's supply.
Discontentment makes us poor while contentment makes us rich!

This Week's Funnies

Some people are so poor; all they have is money.

Pie Pieces Little Johnny and his family lived in the country, and as a result, they seldom had guests. Johnny was eager to help his mother after his father appeared with two dinner guests from the office.

When the dinner was nearly over, Little Johnny went to the kitchen and proudly carried in the first piece of apple pie, giving it to his father, who passed it to a guest. Little Johnny came in with a second piece of pie and gave it to his father, who again gave it to a guest.

This was too much for Little Johnny, who said, "It's no use, Dad. The pieces are all the same size."

"If we are going to touch the people of our communities, we too must know their sorrows, feel for them in their temptations, stand with them in their heartbreaks."

IRS Moshe, the owner of a small Kosher New York deli, was being questioned by an IRS agent about his tax return. He had reported a net profit of $80,000 for the year.

'Why don't you people leave me alone?' the deli owner said. 'I work like a dog, everyone in my family helps out, the place is only closed three days a year. And you want to know how I made $80,000?'

'It's not your income that bothers us,' the agent said. 'It's these travel deductions. You listed ten trips to Israel for you and your wife.'

'Oh, that?' the owner said smiling. 'Well... We also deliver.'

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Things I've Learned From My Children*

1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. foot house 4 inches deep.

2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3. A 3-year-olds voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20 by 20 foot room.

5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using the ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6. The glass in windows (even double pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "Uh-oh," it's already too late.

8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9. A six-year-old can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year-old man says they can only do it in the movies.

10. Certain Legos will pass through the digestive tract of a four-year-old.

11. Play Dough and Microwave should never be used in the same sentence.

12. Super glue is forever.

13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15. VCR's do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is.

19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic toys do not like ovens.

20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.

21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22. It will however make cats dizzy.

23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24. The mind of a six-year-old is wonderful
