Issue 9 Volume 11  - Week of March 3, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

The Haiti Luncheon and Missionary Report was amazing! I hope you were able to be there. We will try to post the slide show on the web if we have room.

Easter is only a few short weeks away. This Easter we will have 2 worship services. Sunrise Service at 7 am at Eagle Harbor Golf Club under the big tent and 10 am in the sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Most people are waiting to be asked.

This Sunday we Ordain and Install FIPC's 1st class of Deacons! It is a great milestone in the life of this church.

God is doing great things in and through this church! Be a part of it! You will get out of it what you put into it.

God is good! All the time!!

Grace and Peace,

Jim

The writings of the Apostle Paul make up the majority of the New Testament.  We will study the life of Paul, as well as his most informative and transformative letter-Romans.  Many call the letter to the Romans, Paul's gospel, as it contains clear explanations of salvation, grace, and God's righteousness.  Be prepared for spirit led conversations, challenging questions, and Christian fellowship.

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
by: David C. McCasland

Just before Christmas one year, a friend was diagnosed with leukemia and was told she must begin chemotherapy immediately. Just a few weeks earlier, Kim had told friends how blessed and content she felt with a loving family, a comfortable home, and a new grandson. As she entered the hospital, Kim asked Jesus to make His presence known to her and to stay close.

The next 7 months of treatments followed by recovery in partial isolation became a season she calls "forced leisure." She says she learned how to slow down, reflect quietly, and rest in God's goodness, love, and perfect plan-regardless of whether or not she would be healed.

One of God's promises to His people Israel became personal to Kim: "The Lord your God . . . will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing" (Zeph. 3:17).

Kim is in remission after a journey she says changed her life for the better. Now back in her busy routine, she often pauses to recapture the lessons of "forced leisure."

How important that we-in good times or times of challenge-draw near to God's loving heart to hear His voice and place our lives in His hands.

A troubled heart, a wearied mind
Are burdens hard to bear;
A lack of peace, a heavy load
Are lifted by God's care.
People are at the heart of God's heart.

This Week's Funnies

A grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person's life.

"A TV can insult your intelligence, but nothing rubs it in like a computer."

A very gentle southern lady was driving across the Savannah River Bridge in Georgia one day. As she neared the top of the bridge, she noticed a young man fixin' to jump. She stopped her car, rolled down the window and said, "Please sir, don't jump, think of your dear mother and father."

He replied, "Mom and Dad are both dead; I'm going to jump."

She said, "Well, think of your wife and children."

He replied, "I'm not married and I don't have any kids."

Grasping for any opportunity, she cried, "Think of your job, the work still to be done."

"I was fired today and have no prospect of another job."

Running out of ideas, she appealed to his patriotism and said, "Well, think of Robert E. Lee."

He replied, ''Who's Robert E. Lee?''

She replied, ''Well bless your heart sugar, just go ahead and jump."

It is vital that people "count their blessings" to appreciate what they possess without having to undergo its actual loss. - Abraham Maslow

Montana State Trooper - In most of the United States there is a policy of checking on any stalled vehicle on the highway when temperatures drop to single digits or below. About 3:00 one very cold morning, Montana State Trooper Allan Nixon responded to a call about a car that was off the shoulder of the road outside Great Falls, Montana. He located the car, stuck in deep snow and with the engine still running. Pulling in behind the car with his emergency lights on, the trooper walked to the driver's door to find an older man passed out behind the wheel with a nearly empty vodka bottle on the seat beside him. The driver woke up when the trooper tapped on the window. Seeing the rotating lights in his rearview mirror, and the state trooper standing next to his car, the man panicked. He jerked the gearshift into "drive" and hit the gas.

The car's speedometer was showing 20, 30, 40, and then 50 MPH, but it was still stuck in the snow, wheels spinning. Trooper Nixon, having a sense of humor, began running in place next to the speeding (but stationary) car. The driver totally freaked out, thinking the trooper was actually keeping up with him. This went on for about 30 seconds, and then the trooper yelled, "PULL OVER!"

The man nodded, turned his wheel, and stopped the engine. Needless to say, the man from North Dakota was arrested and is probably still shaking his head over the state trooper in Montana who could run 50 miles per hour. Who says troopers don't have a sense of humor?

From the dog manual on how to mess with the minds of your humans.

1. After your humans give you a bath, DON'T LET THEM TOWEL DRY YOU! Instead, run to their bed, jump up and dry yourself off on the sheets. This is especially good if it's right before your human's bedtime.

2. Act like a convicted criminal. When the humans come home, put your ears back, tail between your legs, chin down and act as if you have done something really bad. Then, watch as the humans frantically search the house for the damage they think you have caused. (Note: This only works when you have done absolutely nothing wrong.)

3. Let the humans teach you a brand new trick. Learn it perfectly. When the humans try to demonstrate it to someone else, stare blankly back at the humans. Pretend you have no idea what they're talking about.

4. Draw attention to the human. When out for a walk always pick the busiest, most visible spot to go 'poo'. Take your time and make sure everyone watches. This works particularly well if your humans have forgotten to bring a plastic bag.

5. When out for a walk, alternate between choking and coughing every time a strange human walks by.

6. Make your own rules. Don't always bring back the stick when playing fetch with the humans. Make them go and chase it once in a while.

7. Hide from your humans. When your humans come home, don't greet them at the door. Instead, hide from them, and make them think something terrible has happened to you. (Don't reappear until one of your humans is panic-stricken and close to tears).

8. When your human calls you to come back in, always take your time. Walk as slowly as possible back to the door.
