Issue 1 Volume 11  - Week of January 6, 2013

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

Please join me in welcoming our new Director of Youth Ministries - Philip Hart!

Philip was born in Miami, FL and moved to Lehigh Acres, FL at the age of 5. During his time in Lehigh, Philip came to know Christ and was baptized at the age of 8. Going through life as a teenager, Philip was highly influenced in his spiritual walk by his father, which has served in various ministry positions over the past 39 years. After moving to Warner Robins, GA in 1997 and graduating from high school in 2000, his walk with Christ took a back seat. He began attending nightclubs and partying was his every weekend fun. After almost 4 years of living a life for himself, Philip rededicated his life back to Christ in 2004, and joined Bible College one month later. After graduating college, Philip met his wonderful wife to be, Kelley, and the two of them got married in July 2007. They have two children with a third child on the way. Philip went on to serve in several churches as their youth pastor. His prayer and hope is that God will use his energy, gifts, and talents to help rise up a Godly generation at Fleming Island Presbyterian Church.

We received $4,983 from our special Christmas Offering that was designated to help support our Building Fund.  The Building Fund is used to pay our monthly mortgage and insurance.  We want to thank those of you who prayerfully considered and generously participated in our Christmas Offering.

As required by the IRS, your 2012 Year-End Contribution Statements will be mailed out by the January 31st deadline.  Please be aware that our staff and volunteers are working very hard to mail them out prior to the deadline.

Remember - God is GOOD!  ALL the time!
Your pastor and friend...

Dear Students and Student Leaders,

I would like to invite you all out Wednesday, January 16th during youth time while I share my testimony of where God has brought me from, and what his vision for the youth ministry will be at Fleming Island Presbyterian Church. I also want to give the students and adults time to ask me questions to get a better understanding of who I am, discuss my passion for Christ, and my love for students. So, come out and meet my family.

Thank you,
Philip Hart

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
by: Dave Branon

My friend was having a conversation with a man who didn't have much good to say about the Christian faith. My friend knew that if he were to sound too "religious," he would jeopardize any chance to witness. So, in the middle of their discussion, he said, "Hey, Bob, do you know where sinners go?"

"That's easy," he replied. "You're going to tell me they go to hell."

"No," my friend responded. "They go to church."

Bob was speechless. That wasn't what he expected. He wasn't ready to hear from a Christian who realized he wasn't perfect. My friend had a chance to share that Christians understand their sinfulness and their need for continual spiritual restoration. He was able to explain grace-the unmerited favor we have with God despite our sinfulness (Rom. 5:8-9; Eph. 2:8-9).

Perhaps we don't give those outside the church a clear picture of what's happening inside. They may not understand that we're there to praise our Savior for providing "redemption through

His blood, the forgiveness of sins" (Col. 1:14).

Yes, sinners go to church. And sinners-forgiven ones-go to heaven because of God's grace.

We're far from perfection, yet perfect forever, For Christ is our righteousness, Lord, and our Savior; No justification for sin can we offer, Yet sanctified fully, we're now His forever. -Lee
A church is a hospital for sinners, not a club for saints.

This Week's Funnies

I spent 20 minutes explaining life insurance options to one of our employees.

After reviewing the different plans and monthly deductions, he decided to max out, choosing $100,000 worth of life insurance. But he had one last question.

"Now," he said, "what do I have to do to collect the money?"

A bus load of politicians was traveling down a country road when, all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field. The old farmer, after seeing what happened, went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a hole and bury the politicians.

A few days later the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the farmer where all the politicians had gone. The old farmer said he had buried them. The sheriff then asked the old farmer, "Were they ALL dead?" The old farmer replied, "Well, some of them said they weren't, but you know how them politicians lie."

While I was preaching in a church in Mississippi, the pastor announced that their prison quartet would be singing the following evening. I wasn't aware there was a prison in the vicinity and I looked forward to hearing them.

The next evening, I was puzzled when four members of the church approached the stage. Then the pastor introduced them.

"This is our prison quartet," he said, "behind a few bars and always looking for the key."

Christmas Tree - Searching through row upon row of Christmas trees, my wife Leslie and I picked one we liked. Then I noticed the one being held by a woman nearby "the" perfect tree. I watched as she carried it around the lot and couldn't believe my eyes when she set it aside.

I ditched ours and ran over to grab the coveted tree. "Aren't we lucky?" I said to Leslie. "I do feel a little guilty, though, for taking it before she could change her mind."

"Don't worry," she replied. "She just ran over and snatched ours."

I got an email today from Facebook telling me about the notifications I missed today. Great, now my Facebook is set to "nag"!
