3rd Base Class:

  • Tonya and Reese Stansberry, Rick Sulzer, Paul Bedsole, Mike Duhon, John Lankenau

Home Base Class:

How are YOU growing in your faith?  What is something you do which helps you GROW in your faith?  E-mail me your answer - I would love to hear it.

Congratulations to the following ordained as Ruling Elders on Sunday:

  • Paul Bedsole,
  • Richard Calloway and
  • Joie McGee.

Congratulations to Ron Dryden for being installed as a Ruling Elder.

At FIPC Ruling Elders, are elected to serve a two year term.  When the Ruling Elders meet with the Pastor (called a Teaching Elder) and Staff, it is called a Session meeting.  The Office of Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church is for life - i.e. a Ruling Elders ordination does not go away when their term is over. If a person who is already ordained as an Elder elected to serve another two year term, they are not ordained again, they are installed.  Elders work with the Pastor and staff to seek the will of God for the church.  I always tell people that being elected to the office of Ruling Elder (or Deacon - more on this next week) in the church is a demotion - because they are elected to serve.  After being Elected, Ruling Elders (and Deacons) undergo some pretty significant training - They have 8 weeks of training, which includes reading about a dozen books and are examined by the Session as to their readiness to serve.  Let us give thanks to God for these men and women who God has called to serve Christ and His Church!

God is GOOD!  ALL the time!

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional

Recently I was reading about how easy it is to mishandle the message of the Bible. We may try to make it support what we already believe is true instead of allowing it to speak to us with God's intended message. Some people use the Bible to defend one side of an issue, while others use the Bible to attack that same issue. Both quote Scripture to support their views, but both can't be right.

It is important as we use God's Word that we are committed to saying no more and no less than the Scriptures actually say. If we mishandle the Word, we misrepresent it, which ultimately misrepresents God's character. This is why Paul challenged Timothy, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). A key priority for unashamed, approved workers for Christ is to accurately interpret ("rightly divide") God's Word. As we study, we can depend on the Spirit, who inspired it, to give us understanding and wisdom.

Through our words and actions, we have opportunity to represent God's Word in ways that genuinely reflect God's heart. That is one of the greatest privileges of the Christian life.

Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to guide our lives. May we give it the serious care and handling it so richly deserves, and may we live it out daily through our actions and attitudes. Amen.

This Week's Funnies
Like a lot of married men, I got the "You just don't appreciate me" speech once from Juanita. I promised to treat her royally for the remainder of the day. I took her to lunch at Burger King and Dairy Queen for dessert. She's never mentioned it since Cross-Eyed Bear."** The Lord's Prayer ** From San Francisco: When I was a child, I learned this prayer as "Our Father, who are in Heaven, Howard be thy name." I always thought that was God's real name.

HUSBAND: Honey, do you love me just because I inherited a fortune from my father?

WIFE: Of course not, darling! I would love you regardless of who left you the money.

If all the world's a stage, then most of us are desperately unrehearsed.

I was baby-sitting my two grandchildren around suppertime and both hands were submerged in hamburger when Rufus, the family dog, barked at the door.  I asked six-year-old Nathan to let him out, and he did.

A few minutes later Rufus barked to come back in, and again I asked Nathan. He told me that the house rule is that someone else has to do it.

I told him his sister was too far to hear me and politely reminded him that Rufus is his dog.

As he stomped past to let him in, he muttered, "He's your granddog, you know!"

Your only limitations are those you set up in your mind, or permit others to set up for you. - Og Mandino

Stressing the importance of a good vocabulary, the teacher told her young charges, "Use a word ten times, and it shall be yours for life."

From somewhere in the back of the room, came a small male voice chanting, "Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda."

An English professor wrote the words, "Woman without her man is nothing" on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing."
The women wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is nothing."
