Dear Friends,
This Sunday we are having our Christian Growth Classes. These classes are a great way to grow in your faith! They are held this Sunday, after worship at 1 pm. Child care is available upon request.
In this e-newsletter, we have been talking about sharing our faith with other people. Here is another way to share Gods love for people. Share "the bridge" illustration.
1. God LOVES you and offers a wonderful PLAN for your life.
- "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" John 3:16 NIV.
- "I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly" John 10:10
Why is it that most people are not experiencing the abundant life? Because...
2. Human being are SINFUL and SEPARATED from God. Therefore, we cannot know and experience God's love and plan for our life.
- "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23.
Humans are created to have fellowship with God; but, because of our stubborn self-will, we chose to go our own independent way, and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will, characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is an evidence of what the Bible calls sin.
- "The wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23.
God is holy and humans are sinful. A great gulf separates the two. The arrows illustrate that humans are continually trying to reach God and the abundant life through our own efforts, such as a good life, philosophy, or religion - but we inevitably fail.
3. Jesus Christ is God's ONLY provision for our sin. Through Him we can know and experience God's love and plan for our life.
- "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8
- "Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred..." 1 Corinthians 15:3-6.
- "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me'" John 14:6.
God has bridged the gulf which separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.
It is not enough just to know this...
4. We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives.
- "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" John 1:12
- "By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast" Ephesians 2:8,9.
5. When We Receive Christ, We Experience a New Birth see: John 3:1-8.
- "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him" Revelation 3:20.
Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self and sin (repentance) and trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and to make us what He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.
God is GOOD! ALL the time!
Your pastor and friend... Jim Weldon

This Weeks Funnies
|
My wife wanted me to start taking cod liver oil for my health, but I thought there was something fishy about the whole idea.
WHAT KIDS HEAR ** The Rosary ** From Groton, MA:My mother spent her early childhood saying, "Hail Mary, full of grapes." ** Pledge of Allegiance ** Covina, CA:I recall reading something years ago about the Pledge of Allegiance. Some child thought it began, "I led the pigeons to the flag." Cleveland, OH: When I was little, I often wondered who Richard Stands was. You know: "I pledge allegiance to the flag ... and to the republic for Richard Stands." ** Hymns ** Schenectady, NY: I once knew a child whose favorite Sunday school song was "Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear." Lake Forest Park, WA: When I was a little girl, we sang a song in Sunday school about Noah. Part of the chorus was "And the rains came down, and the floods came up." We lived next door to a couple of charming little girls who always sang this song while playing in their garden. Their words were, "And the rains came down, and the spuds came up."
** The Creed ** Tampa, FL: When my husband was 6 years old, he thought the creed said: "He suffered under a bunch of violets." The real words are "under Pontius Pilate," but at that age, he didn't know better.
** The Lord's Prayer ** From San Francisco: When I was a child, I learned this prayer as "Our Father, who are in Heaven, Howard be thy name." I always thought that was God's real name.
Missoula, MT: My son, who is in nursery school, said, "Our Father, who art in Heaven, how didja know my name?"
Uniontown, OH: I remember thinking this prayer was "Give us this day our jelly bread."
Grand Junction, CO: When I was younger, I believed the line was "Lead a snot into temptation." I thought I was praying for my little sister to get into trouble.
"We cannot, and we must not, isolate ourselves from the world in which we live and the problems it faces...The Gospel of Christ has no meaning unless it's applied to our fellow man who hurts and is in need. That's our neighbor, and Jesus said we're to love our neighbor as ourselves." - Billy Graham
Summer vacation was over and the teacher asked Little Johnny about his family trip. "We visited my grandmother in Minneapolis, Minnesota." The teacher asked, "Good, can you tell the class how you spell that?" After careful thought, Little Johnny said, "Actually, come to think of it, we went to Ohio."
A young woman was waiting for a bus in a slum area one evening when a rookie policeman approached her. "Want me to wait with you?" he asked. She replied, "Thank you, but that's not necessary. I'm not afraid." "Well, then," he said, grinning, "would you mind waiting with me?"
2 New Words That Should Exist:
- Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize that it was your money to start with.
- Arachnoleptic Fit: The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.
