April is for Spring Flowers
Days are getting warmer, brighter and being inside at work is getting harder. Remember that April Showers bring May Flowers. And we are in a bad drought.Despite all this lovely springing everywhere - THINK RAIN. CGS welcomes three new volunteers: - Nancy Cork is the new Periodicals Manager in the Library;
- Stella Allison will be assisting with the Events Committee;
- Adelle Treakle will be working on Membership data entry.
CGS thrives with the generosity of its volunteers! If you are interested in donating some of your time and talent to CGS, check out our Volunteer Positions page on the CGS website or contact Kathleen Beitiks for more information.

Genealogy in Multimedia
| Other places to find Genealogy techniques by Stewart Blandn Traiman
| Recently I came across a YouTube video by CGP Gray entitled Your Family Tree Explained. I'm a fan of CGP Grey's content, though most of his material is not about genealogy. But this got me thinking of what other great resources might be found in Video or Podcasts. I put together a short list of YouTube channels that are dedicated to Genealogy.

Ancestor Tribute

Crisanto Zelaya Rosales (seated). Five of his children from left to right - Elba Guiterrez, Arnoldo Martinez, Cecilia Martinez (my grandmother), Cesar Augusto Martinez and Isolina Blandn. This picture was likely taken circa 1936, on October 4 which was a shared birthday for both Elba and Cecilia.

Crisanto Zelaya Rosales was my maternal great-grandfather. He is an important figure in my family's history because he had many children and he can be found on both sides of my family tree. Crisanto was born about 1892 most likely in Granada, Nicaragua to Leandro Rosales and Carmen Zelaya. Note that his name does not follow Spanish conventions of paternal surname before the maternal surname. I have not determined why this is, but I suspect his parents were not married to each other.
Crisanto became an importer of machine parts and set up his business in El Jicaro, Nicaragua. While there he brought two of his daughter, Elba Guiterrez and Isolina Blandon, to live with him and paid for their schooling. Crisanto also ran a popular night club, sold fabrics and hardware in La Trinidad, Nicaragua.
He was very fond of crossword puzzles and gambling. He lost his home and business to the latter hobby. He also loved women and though he never married, he had many lovers and children while traveling for business in Nicaragua.
He died of Emphysema and Heart disease on 15 Jun 1973 at the age of 81 in La Trinidad, Nicaragua and he is buried in the municipal cemetery there.
