Ancestor Tribute
| by Terry Coddington, CGS Member
|
 | CGS member, Terry Coddington, with parents and relatives on his mother's side of the family |
This is one of my favorite favorite ancestor photos because I'm in it, as are all of my female ancestors on my mother's side, with whom I knew and grew up. I estimate it was taken in the first half of 1938.
From left to right: my mother's brother (holding me), my mother Mamie Pearl Preece (1914-1983) and father Millard Calvin Coddington (1912-2000), my mother's other brother and his wife, my maternal grandmother (born Molly Bell Smith), and maternal great-grandmother (born Sarah Jane Seabolt). My cousin, firstborn of the uncle holding me, is in the front. The picture was taken in southern California, and my estimation of its vintage is helped by the mound above my mother's hands: my sister, Deanna, was born 1 June, 1938.
The Smith-Seabolts were from Lumpkin County, Geogia, and my mother was a Californian from a 1910 union of Molly Bell and Andrew Giddens Preece, a Texan.

We enjoy honoring members' ancestors. Please email a photo to Lorna Wallace, along with a short summary about why the ancestor featured is important or interesting to you. Photos should be in .jpg format with a file size over 100 kb; photos and text may be edited for space.
