Happy July!
It has been a beautiful summer so far, and we have a fun-filled month ahead of us. Our annual Where's Waldo search and Sidewalk Sale will be happening, as well as the much-anticipated release of the eighth epic Harry Potter story.

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to be sure everyone is clear on what this is. This is a special rehearsal edition script book based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne & John Tiffany. It is not the next book in the Harry Potter series. It is based on a story by J.K. Rowling, but not actually written by her. This is not the final edition of the script. The play opens in London the same weekend the script will be released. Because plays tend to evolve for the first few weeks and sometimes even months after they open, a final script book will be released in 2017. With all of this in mind, we are still very excited, and will be celebrating the continuation of the story line with a midnight release party for anyone who has prepurchased or preordered the book with us.

Main Street Construction Update: The orange barrels have arrived and are lined up like soldiers along the Green. A few detour signs have gone up and are waiting to be uncovered. Unfortunately, we still don't have an exact start date. We will do our best to keep you informed as we get updates. In the meantime, it would be wonderful if you all would consider writing to the Hub and our other local papers about the importance of supporting the local shops along Main Street, especially during the construction when we will undoubtedly see a dip in foot traffic.

Thank you for your support, and happy reading!
- Kate

Kate says: Fantastic alternate history. Heart-pounding and heartbreaking all at the same time.
It is the present day, and the world is as we know it: smartphones, social networking and Happy Meals. Save for one thing: The Civil War never occurred.
A gifted young black man calling himself Victor has struck a bargain with federal law enforcement, working as a bounty hunter for the US Marshall Service. He's got plenty of work. In this version of America, slavery continues in four states called "the Hard Four". On the trail of a runaway known as Jackdaw, Victor arrives in Indianapolis knowing that something isn't right - with the case file, with his work, and with the country itself...

Linda says: A young woman has gone missing in the small town of Cooley Ridge. In a wholly original technique, the author jumps ahead to fifteen days after the event and tells the story backwards to the beginning. The reader is quickly drawn into the suspenseful tale of the people in the small town. [read more]

[Houghton Mifflin, $25.00]
Linda says: Mark and Maggie start out on their drive east a little bit agitated, a little bit impatient, but mostly glad to be getting out of the city and spending time relaxing and slowing down in the country. The drive starts out with perfect weather and, once they get out of Chicago rush hour, friendly highways. Unfortunately, they are driving later than they'd anticipated, and they drive into a rash of severe thunderstorms, pounding rain and lashing winds. When they stop at a hotel recommended to them in an extremely remote spot in the mountains, they find that there is no electricity, no running water, nothing. This inconvenience and an altercation in the early morning hours test their relationship and their future lives together. Excellently paced, totally relatable and an exciting read.

Bryan Pierce is an internationally famous artist whose paintings have dazzled the world. But there's a secret to Bryan's success: Every canvas is inspired by an unusually vivid dream. Bryan believes these dreams are really recollections from another life, and he has always hoped that his art will lead him to an answer. And when he meets Linz Jacobs, a neurogeneticist who recognizes a recurring childhood nightmare in one of Bryan's paintings, he is convinced she holds the key. [read more]
