Just down the street, Nashua Community College (NCC) has added a Swiss-style CNC machine to their machining tech program and W.H. Bagshaw is helping to make it happen! Our very own Lou Davis has been working along side the staff there getting the machine running and teaching a class one night a week.
Many shops across the New England area are running Swiss CNC machines and are challenged with finding machinists with the right skill set. Typically on the job training either takes too long to come up to speed or there isn't enough time to dedicate for proper training. NCC has realized this industry-wide issue and is helping local businesses close the skills gap and fill available jobs.
NCC was able to do this with part of its federal funding from the U.S. Department of Labor's Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACT) initiative. Starting in January of 2015, the first Swiss-style machining class will commence at Nashua Community College and the Bagshaw Company is looking forward to helping them get skilled Swiss machinists into the job market.
