Philp working his way back at FIS World Cup Opener
SOELDEN, Austria (October 27, 2014) - The Canadian alpine ski team kicked off the 2014-15 World Cup season with some promising results, over the weekend, in both the men's and women's giant slalom races held in Soelden, Austria.

Philip Brown, of Toronto, skied to a 21st place finish in the men's giant slalom, Sunday, to post a career best at the World Cup level. On the women's side, Marie-Pier Préfontaine, of Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, finished 24th on Saturday to earn her best result in her last eight races.

Alberta's Trevor Philp of the Banff Alpine Racers (photo above) finished the first run in 45th place, just 1.51 seconds behind teammate Phil Brown. In World Cup racing only the top 30 qualify to compete in the second run in technical events. Trevor continues to improve each race, gaining more valuable experience as he begins his 2014-15 FIS World Cup campaign.

The next World Cup events will be in Levi, Finland, with women's and men's slaloms slated for November 15-16.

NorAm Volunteer at Lake Louise

The NorAm Downhill is back at Lake Louise! Alberta is excited to host these men's and women's races from December 8-11, 2014. Many of the world's best up and coming athletes will be here competing for World Cup spots.  Volunteer here.

Chief of Race Todd McNutt and Chief of Course Bob Leitch lead an experienced, dedicated and fun-loving group of volunteers who take pride in holding a race that offers Canadian athletes a chance to race at home on the well-prepared and exciting World Cup track - immediately following the season-opening Men's and Women's World Cup downhill races at Lake Louise.

We're looking for people to come out to Lake Louise - ideally from Sunday noon till end of race Thursday, however if you can make it for just a day or two, we should be able to find spots. We provide:

  • shared accommodation at the Lake Louise Inn for those who are working multiple days, mostly in rooms with kitchens
  • breakfast and lunch
  • lift ticket for access to the races
  • post-race socializing
  • volunteer appreciation pizza dinner on Tuesday evening

A Message for Coaches

The Coaching Association of Canada and its partners recognize the value of having certified NCCP coaches that are engaged in Professional Development programs which reinforce the values of lifelong learning and sharing amongst the coaching community.

In order for NCCP coaches to maintain their certified status, they will be required to obtain Professional Development (PD) points. PD points can be earned through a multitude of activities that coaches already participate in, including: national and provincial sport organization conferences and workshops, eLearning modules, NCCP workshops, coach mentorship programs, and active coaching. In most cases coaches are already earning their required PD points. [More]
