Jocelyn and Jeff Lead Team Canada at World Juniors

Competing at the Junior World Championships in Jasna, Slovakia this week, Alberta Ski Team athletes Jocelyn McCarthy and Jeff Bell are proving that they belong with the world's best. Jeff Bell led Team Canada in the opening Super G/Super Combined last week, finishing 21st and 16th respectively. The great results didn't stop there, as Jocelyn McCarthy made a real splash placing 16th overall in the slalom; making her the 1st U18 athlete overall.

Jeff will be in action tomorrow in the men's slalom - remember to check out fis-ski.com for all the action on live timing.

The 2014 Sport Chek Jasper Junior Olympics (JJO's) were an overwhelming success this weekend, despite extremely cold temperatures both Saturday and Sunday at Marmot Basin.

The 41st Annual event is the largest ski race in Canada, featuring 450 athletes ages 4-11 years of age, 300 volunteers, and three separate race courses. Alberta Alpine would like to salute the hard working volunteers who made this event possible.

Volunteer Opportunity - Nor Am Finals

Alpine Canada is hosting both ladies and men's Nor Am Finals at Nakiska and COP from March 10 to 16, 2014. This is the highest level of competition in North America outside of the early season World Cup races. The top racers are vying for World Cup spots and some will have competed at the Sochi Olympics.

Help is especially needed at the Ladies Slalom Races at COP on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 11 and 12.

Accommodation, meals and chance to see the best up and coming skiers in the world are all part of the package.

If you would like to be part of this exciting race, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Barb Wood at skiracevolunteer@shaw.ca for more information.

Club Executives and Boards
Alberta Alpine is embarking on its regular review of its strategic plan. As part of this process, the Board of Alberta Alpine will be seeking input from the ski racing community in the next few weeks.  There will be a survey sent out next week, but if there are additional comments or information that you would like to convey, please forward it directly to Alberta Alpine or to one of the members of the Strategic Planning Committee.

We are looking forward to effective consultations that will assist Alberta Alpine in supporting and developing a strong athlete development system.

Thanks for your assistance.

Alberta Alpine Strategic Planning Committee Members: Janet Russell, Gilbert Wall, Scott Wallace, Sandy Webster, Karen Fitzgerald, and Adam Hull.
