Fidelity Investments are off to the Races

The inaugural Fidelity Investments U14 race series took place last weekend at Marmot Basin and was a roaring success. Between the excitement of over 200 U14 athletes across Alberta for their first race of the season, and the resorts busiest weekend of the year, the energy that overwhelmed the area was contagious.

Volunteer Opportunities: Nor-Am Finals

Alberta is playing host to both ladies and men's Nor-Am Finals at Nakiska and COP from March 10 - 16, 2014.

This is the highest level of competition in North America outside of the early season World Cup races. The top racers are vying for World Cup spots and some will even have competed at the Sochi Olympics.

With two races running simultaneously at two different venues, many volunteers will be needed to stage safe and successful races. Alberta's most experienced race officials can be found in the leadership positions, making this a great place see the experts in action and learn some tricks to bring back to your own club's races.

It is also where some of the country's most dedicated, knowledgeable, and friendly volunteers can be found. They take pride in producing a competition venue that is of the highest standard, allowing the competitors to race to win!

Accommodation, meals and a chance to see the best up and coming skiers in the world are all part of the package.

To volunteer for this event please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Barb Wood at skiracevolunteer@shaw.ca

Legends Club High Performance Training

The second week of Legends Club High Performance Scrimmage at COP is now complete.

Alberta Alpine staff members, Mike Necesanek (Athletics Manager) and Brett Zagozewski (Athletics Director) have been on-site for all days on snow so far, and say the energy from kids is great.

"We had two athletes come down from Edmonton just for the afternoon", Necesanek reported. "It's so great to see that kind of determination and dedication from young athletes and their parents as they make their way through the Alberta ski racing programs".

The feedback from athletes has been equally positive, with all participants agreeing that being able to attend these afternoon sessions gives them the opportunity for more mileage in courses, which builds their confidence and in return sets them up for success in the season's races.
