Concussion in Sports Seminar - January 14th

Having a concussion is a risk that athletes face in many sports, including skiing. There is a free information session on concussions on Tuesday, January 14, at 6:00 pm in the main day lodge at COP. This seminar is for everyone, including: a parent wondering about a concussion in your athlete, a coach wanting more informaton on assessment and return to play, or an athlete wanting to become more informed.

This seminar has been done before to great success and interest. There will be talks for one hour, followed by a period of open questions to the panel. Dr. Jeff Dunn, a Professor in the faculty of Medicine, is hosting the evening, and will provide an overview of concussions. Dr. Karen Barlow, a pediatric neurologist at the Childrens hospital specializing in traumatic brain injury, will talk about experience with pediatric (under 18) concussions; and Dr. Brett, a sports medicine physician at the University of Calgary Sports Medicine Clinic and head physician to the Calgary Flames, will talk about sports assessment and return to play guidelines.

This session is open to all and there is no charge, however there is only room for 75 attendees. It is being run as a public service by members of the University of Calgary.

Attention all Race Organizing Committees

This checklist should be submitted to Rachel Bowman (rachel@albertaalpine.ca) at least two weeks prior to the race date.
