A weekly source of positive energy and information
for the village of Sayulita Mexico

From the Editor's Desk

Expect a very busy weekend in Sayulita with the 5th annual Punta Sayulita Longboard and Stand Up Paddle Classic in town. The competition will be taking place Saturday and Sunday with local and international surf and paddleboard pros and enthusiasts competing in the surf contest and off-shore distance paddleboard races. Come out to the Sayulita main beach to cheer on your favorite participants and enjoy the biggest surf event of the year in Sayulita. Also don't miss Saturday night's concert performance of G Love and Special Sauce. The enigmatically smooth Garrett "G. Love" Dutton is one of Philadelphia's funkiest performers of laid back, alternative hip-hop blues (a genre he helped define). This weekend's benefit concert is FREE on the Sayulita beach and with GLove releasing his newest album "Sugar" in April, attendees will be the first to hear some of the new tracks.

Best of luck to all the participants in the water this weekend and see you at the Punta Sayulita Longboard and Stand Up Paddle Classic.

Chocobanana Goes Green: Banning Styrofoam and Moving Local

In the heart of Sayulita there is a banana, a Chocobanana in fact. Located at the center of town (on the corner of Avenida Revolucion and Delfin), nearly everyone who passes through Sayulita eventually makes a daytime stop at this iconic eatery, whether it's to grab a bite with friends or to pick up something quick for the road. For nearly 20 years, owner Tracie Willis has been happily serving up her signature dish - frozen chocolate-dipped bananas! - from this central location, augmenting the menu over time with great coffee, homemade baked goods and a variety of Mexican and international brunch staples. One visit and it's easy to see why Chocobanana has become a local and visitor's favorite. Yet as far as Tracie is concerned, it's not only the tasty food, comfortable outdoor seating and free WiFi that brings in the crowds each year. She's also convinced much of her continued success is a result of Chocobanana's commitment to local green initiatives and the ever-increasing awareness of such issues by her customer base. Read more

New Classroom For Costa Verde

By Kathleen Nicoletti

The campus of Costa Verde International School is a very busy place. While most people know it is home to students in grades K-9, some do not know that is also home to an adult language program. This program is run by Nancy Avila. Nancy's teachers (and Nancy) teach Spanish to the many visitors to Sayulita. With the growth of Costa Verde's student population, the language program has struggled to find classroom space when the kinder, primary and middle schools are in session. During this time, language classes are held in our outdoor science palapa and on picnic tables that are sprinkled about the grounds of the campus. But very soon the language school will have a new classroom space. Read more

Pet of the Week: "Taj"

Hola my name is Taj and I am a 1-year-old male. I was found wandering the streets of Sayulita. I was starving and eating anything I could get my paws on. I get excited about food, but I am not aggressive. My foster mom says that I am super lovable and I have the most striking eyes. I do just want to be loved. I am house trained; get along with other dogs and kids too. I was shy at first, but I am finding my inner spunk and even my bark. I will look you in the eyes and do anything you want me to do, whether that is running, snuggling, walking, or just giving love. I am just ready to serve you anyway I can. Let my friends know at Sayulitanimals if i spark your interest!
