A weekly source of positive energy and information
for the village of Sayulita Mexico

From the Editor's Desk

Sayulita Days are officially over for another year. Monday's parade was full of patriotic colors, children marching in sync, red, green and white floats and many waving Mexican flags, all in celebration of Flag Day. Bands played into the night on both Sunday and Monday to celebrate the holiday and wrap up yet another successful Sayulita Days fair. High season is in full swing here in town, with several more exciting events to come. Next up: the Punta Sayulita Longboard and SUP Classic taking place next weekend. Sayulita can expect to see an influx in tourism as the beach fills with spectators cheering on our local talent, plus a special Saturday night concert featuring G-Love and Special Sauce.

Interview with Leyla Morris of
Stand Up Paddle Mexico

SayulitaLife.com: Where are you from and what brought you to Sayulita?
Leyla: I am born and raised in California but lived in Kona, Hawaii for four years before moving to Mexico. I came to Mexico after falling in love with someone who lived here and moved here to be with him and open a paddle shop in Sayulita.

SayulitaLife.com: Tell us more about the SUP craze?
Leyla: I think paddle boarding has really taken off because it can be enjoyed by all ages and athletic abilities. It's great exercise but can also be very relaxing and peaceful. Read entire interview

CVIS Gives Grand Party; Gets Record Attendance and Record Donations
By Ed Schwartz

As all of you know who were at the terrific Costa Verde International School fundraiser recently, spirits were high. But that's not all that was high. The event set a record in attendance and dollars raised. It was a tribute to the great work CVIS is doing for young students as well as the generosity of so many interested Sayulitans. Read more

Upcoming Pro Sayulita Fiesta
Fundraiser Live Auction Item

Sayulita long-time resident and renowned artist, Evelyne Boren has generously donated one of her paintings for the Pro Sayulita Fiesta Fundraiser March 19th. Sunset in Paradise Water Color is a 22x30 painting with a value of $3900.00 USD. Evelyne Boren's paintings have been a main attraction at the live auction in year's past. Two years ago her painting was auctioned twice; the first bidder put it back in the auction to be sold a second time. Historically the bids are higher than the value of the piece, making her contribution to the Pro Sayulita Fiesta Fundraiser a VERY important component.

There is still time to purchase tickets for the Pro Sayulita Fiesta Fundraiser. Visit www.prosayulita.org to purchase tickets online or buy them at La Hamaca Gallery, Don Pedro's, Sayulita Sol Jewelry or at the Pro Sayulita booth set up every Friday at the Farmer's Market.

CVIS Student Teacher Program

By CVIS student teachers Cynthia Hsu, Gabriela Greary,
Alyssa Willman and Erin Connell

Cynhia Hsu, Gabriela Geary, Alyssa Willman, and Erin Connell

A year ago, the idea of student teaching abroad was just a dream. Now, six weeks into our nine-week stay in Sayulita, we can't believe how fast our time at Costa Verde International School has gone. Our student teaching experience was made possible by a new partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and CVIS. Each semester up to four students have the opportunity to complete half of their student teaching requirements in Sayulita. We feel so fortunate to represent our university and to have this once in a lifetime experience in such an amazing community. Read more

Bite This: Fried Shrimp at

Rollie's at Night

By Ed Schwartz

Rollie's is to breakfast what sun is to Sayulita, but some may not know that Rollie's is an excellent restaurant at night. The very savory paella is a standby, but the other night I ordered the fried shrimp on a whim. And was I happy I did. Read more

Sayulitanimals: The Promise

While vacationing in Bucerias,Mexico in November 2013, we came upon a neglected female older shepherd living in a desperate situation. We named her "Bonita", but she was far from beautiful. Starving, limping and full of ticks, fleas and parasites she was hardly a sight to behold. But it was her dark brown soulful eyes that stole our hearts. We did what we could at the time. Feeding her, loving her and before we left, made her a promise. "We will be back for you." Read more

Pet of the Week: "Noi"

Hola! I am Noi a young, female, jack russell terrier mix dog. I am a very sweet, loveable and friendly girl. I get attached very quickly to my person and like to follow you everywhere. I have been an outside dog for the most part, so would ...do well in an enclosed yard. I have a lot of energy and like to take walks on the beach. I am looking for someone to love me just as much as I will love them back. If I spark your interest please contact my friends at Sayulitanimals.
