Greetings to our 8,172 subscribers,
Happy 4th of July to all our American residents of Sayulita and tourists in town. Yesterday the celebrations for the American holiday kicked off in Sayulita as the ex-pat community showed patriotism for their Independence Day. There were several 4th of July parties around town including a street BBQ and Beer Pong tournament at Monchis Restaurant, live music and dancing at Rodeo Bar and Don Chow also hosted a special 4th of July party. If you were downtown Sayulita last night you would have seen many locals, residents, Americans, Canadians and Mexicans all having a great time and just enjoying the summer vibe of Sayulita.
Sayulita kids are officially out of school for the summer after their last day of School on Tuesday. Summer in Sayulita is in full swing and this week El Sayulero also brings you some Summer time articles including why Sayulita is such a paradise even in our "off season" and some summer refreshments to try while beating the summer heat. Enjoy the below articles and thank you for reading El Sayulero.

Fostering Animals in Sayulita
|
By Shelly for Sayulitanimals
Sayulitanimals is proud and grateful for everyone's efforts to improve conditions and better the lives of the local dogs and cats. If you've been around Sayulita for several years or longer, you can appreciate the difference in the local animal population. You may have even had a visitor comment on the dog friendly nature of our town. Many locally, have adopted a needy four legged friend and as an organization, we have sent many North to their furrever homes. However, the work is never over. We are always in need of foster homes, especially in the summer months. With the heat, rain and lack of friendly tourists many area dogs suffer in the 'low season'. Sayulitanimals is not a pound and we only have space in our back yard for a few medically needy animals. In turn, we need YOU, the community, to open your hearts and homes - even if only temporarily. Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). Read More
Leer Mas

Pet of the Week: "Eli"
|
Found in the middle of the highway, severely emaciated, arched over, stuck in full body spasms - Eli was one of the saddest cases of distress we had ever seen. His jaw muscles had locked up, his forehead was indented, he couldn't walk or even sit for a few moments without getting pulled into some awkward position by the twitching. He didn't seem to have much time left.
It turns out, that Eli had been fighting Distemper the previous 3 months. In addition, he was currently fighting Erlichia (a local tic borne disease). But by the time we got Eli to the vet and home, it was obvious that this guy was a little warrior. With every day you could see signs of repair.
To see Eli today, in motion, you would never know anything was or is wrong with him. But when he is still, you can see the remains of his distemper: his hind right leg continues to twitch 24hours a day - sometimes mildly sometimes more strongly. At rest, Eli sometimes whimpers or cries. This audible tic is off when he is active, and sometimes worse when resting. The vets have assured us that he is not suffering - these are audible tics much like the physical tics in his leg.
Regardless of the tics, Eli is completely functional, smart and very sweet ALL the time. He will jump out of a whimpering moment to run out to greet our car. He is strong and healthy. Eli is alive and has lots of living and loving left to do. The time has come for Eli to find a forever home. A home that will understand where he came from, the healing he still needs to go through and the incredibly special dog that he is.
To adopt Eli or donate to Sayulitanimals contact: sayulitanimals@hotmail.com
No parecía tener mucho tiempo.
