Greetings to our 8,547 subscribers

Sayulita Beach Spring is definitely in the air this week in Sayulita. It's the perfect temperature day and night. No need for jackets or long pants in the evenings and it's still not too hot at night that you need A/C for sleeping. The "primavera" trees with their yellow blossoms are in bloom and the ocean has warmed up for surfers to take early morning paddles without having to wear a wet suit. Sayulita tourism is still in swing as the beaches and sidewalks are busy with visitors, but the tranquility of our pueblo is back to normal after Semana Santa and kids are back to school after two weeks vacation. Since changing the clocks ahead an hour last Sunday, the days seem significantly longer with sunsets over the point at approximately 8:00 PM.  Summer is just around the corner!

Thank you for reading El Sayulero.

Saludos a nuestros 8,547 lectores

Sayulita Hosts Escaramuza Event

 By Lindsay Walter

What is an Escaramuza event in Mexico? It is a traditional, Mexican competition and choreography performed on horseback by young ladies who participate in "Charreria", Mexico's national sport of horseback riding. Teams are made up of all female participants, between 8 and 10 young ladies per team who are dressed in traditional dresses representative of Mexico and must perform a rehearsed routine to music incorporating various techniques and manoeuvres on their horses. For the first time, Sayulita will be hosting an Escaramuza event on Sunday April 21st. The event will kick off in the Sayulita plaza at 2 PM with a parade of the Escaramuza teams from various towns in the region, including our very own Escaramuza team representing Sayulita called "Las Perlas de Sayulita." The competition begins at 3:30 PM at the Plaza de Toros arena at the top of town.  More

Sharing and Caring the Sayulita Way

 By Nicki Cooper

Life in Sayulita has such beautiful moments when the community will come together to help one another and build up some great karma.  In this particular instance, I am referencing the ever-popular clothing exchange.  These events are often posted on Sayulita People on Facebook and the Sayulita Calendar.  I have been here for years and never participated until the other night.  More

El Espresso Offers Something Different

In a world full of chemicals and pollutants, El Espresso is giving us options for our health. Utilizing the natural choices that Sayulita offers, they put the freshest ingredients on the menu whenever they are in season. Right now it's farm fresh, free-range, organic eggs. These are always available, but their chickens went crazy and currently there is a massive surplus of these delicious eggs. Typically a small fee of ten pesos is added for this preference, but right now, they are used with no extra charge. More

Mas

Improving Security in Sayulita
Two years ago, Sayulita was faced with a very serious and increasingly oppressive problem. Daily robbery reports by locals and visitors alike amounted to thousands of dollars of valuables stolen. This theft took this otherwise peaceful town and plagued it with fear and insecurity. The community wanted and needed action. GPS stepped in to broker a solution. Increasing vigilance and innovative ways to address break in's were explored and the pro's and con's of each option were evaluated. A special fund was created to strategically reduce insecurity and restore the town's reputation as a family-friendly destination. More

Mas

Bite This: A Special Chicken Dish at Calypso

There are lots of things I love about Calypso. One, the food is always good; the portions are generous, often share-able. The wait staff is really friendly. So, the other night, I climbed the stairs and asked one of the waiters if the kitchen could do a little variation on one of my favorite dishes, the panko-crusted friend chicken. More

Mas

Pueblo Magico: Exploring Between
Sayulita and Guadalajara

For most Sayulita homeowners, a trip to Guadalajara (GDL) is necessary to buy essential house items. If you want really good Mexican ceramic dishes and glassware at very low prices, that's the place to head.  Most tourists stay at Talaquepaque (Hotel La Villa del Ensueno has donated to GPS and is a first class boutique hotel) and then head to one of the funkiest markets in Mexico, just at the far edge of the city, called Tonala.  It's a 'zoo scene,' indeed, but once you get used to it, you'll find all kinds of handcrafted furniture, decorative items, glassware, metal-craft, etc.  -- there's something for everyone. More

Changes to the Spay and Neuter Program

Sayulitanimals has offered a free spay/neuter program since the doors opened, but the economy keeps changing and that is now affecting their ability to give this amazing service to the town of Sayulita. They take this program very seriously and have always used the highest quality equipment including the anesthesia, sutures, and after care. Refusing to give less than the very best to the dogs and cats of Sayulita, they've chosen to apply a small fee for future surgeries.  More

Sayulita Is For Everyone:
Interview with Timothy Kelley

By Timothy Kelly

If you've seen me walking through our lovely Sayulita of late, talking to myself, it's because I was interviewing this week's candidate-me. Sorry, but enough of you have asked for this, that the rest of you will have to suffer through my story. I will try to make it as interesting as possible. A long time ago, in a far off land called New York, Timothy Kelley was born in a stable in December. Well, not exactly. I was born in a hospital on December 8th, and we lived over a horse stable because my father trained race horses. I grew up in New York, going to a wonderful (and I mean this) church school where I learned via the "ruler smack technique" to write cursive with my right hand, even though I was naturally left- handed. Religion and I had a "love/hate relationship" from a very early age.  More

Bueno, no exactamente. Mas
