Greetings to our 8,533 subscribers
Sayulita Days are soon approaching and everyone is getting excited. This annual town fair comes every February offering vendors, taco stands, rides and games for the whole family leading up to February 24th, Flag Day. Sayulita Days will be getting underway sometime next week and if you walk past the baseball field today, you can see a few rides still on the back of trucks and getting ready to set up for the fair. There will be more to come soon! February weather has been spectacular with sunny days and as you can see pictured right, the downtown palms that line the pedestrian streets sway in a cool breeze. These are perfect days for beach-goers in Sayulita!

Interview with Gabriel Fernandez

By Timothy Kelly
Gabe was born in the Palm Springs area to Mexican parents who were in the United States under the protection of the Bracero Program. The Bracero Program (named for the Spanish term bracero, "strong-arm") was a series of laws and diplomatic agreements, initiated by an August 1942 exchange of diplomatic notes between the United States and Mexico, for the importation of temporary contract laborers from Mexico to the United States. American president Franklin D. Roosevelt met with Mexican president Manuel Ávila Camacho in Monterrey, Mexico to discuss Mexico as part of the Allies in World War II and the Bracero Program. After the expiration of the initial agreement in 1947, the program was continued in agriculture under a variety of laws and administrative agreements until its formal end in 1964. Bite This: The Ribeye Steak at Don Juan's
|
A visit to Don Juan, or several, will give you the opportunity to dine in an excellent restaurant that is functioning at the very top of its game. This rib eye steak was savory and tender and well grilled to the exact done-ness I had asked for. The sauce was light and piquant, the vegetables were actually cooked and the mashed potatoes were fluffy and light. On top of the steak were crispy onion slivers as thin as can be. More
Mas

Pueblo Magico: More Color For Our Public Art
|
About a year ago, I wrote about public art and gave some examples of what might happen in Sayulita (you can still read it in ElSayulero's GPS archives). Unfortunately, government bureaucrats didn't read the article and certainly have little aesthetic sense. Which is why Sayulita ended up with an entrance gate (one of four installed in the region) and the red metal sculpture on the plaza. More

|
Poopie is a small, 2 year old, special needs girl. She was found homeless and covered in dread locks. She was previously hit by a car, but never taken to the vets so her back end healed incorrectly. She now has problems holding in her bowel movements, but is getting stronger and better everyday. Poopie loves going on walks and getting lots of affection. This little girl is very calm and has so much love to give. She would love it if you had a safe space in your yard for her to call her "Fur-ever" home.

Photo of the Week: Tacos on the Street
|
Photos by Donna Day Photography
Sayulita is full of little taco stands on the street and pretty much all of them a good. But here on the North side of town, the place where we all go is called "Tacos On The Street." Sandrita and Jorge have one of the few taco places to offer actual grilled vegetables on their veggie tacos. They also have the best steamed fish tacos ever on Thursdays and steak tacos all the time, not to mention all the great desserts that Sandrita bakes daily.
