Super Bowl Fever will be taking over Sayulita this weekend and there are a variety of bars and restaurants that will be broadcasting the game this Sunday and hosting some great Super Bowl parties. See the list below and start planning your Super Bowl Sunday outing with friends and family in Sayulita.
As local events and fundraisers approach in the upcoming month, it is time when the Sayulita community really comes together. Whether it's to raise funds for a hospital bill after a severe accident, in the case of local surfer Renee Torres (read article below about an upcoming fundraiser for Renee) or taking part in in the activities, workshops and classes being help in February at the Casa de la Cultura (read article below on the Casa de la Cultura projects in full swing) or if you will be attending the 6th annual Costa Verde International School fundraiser party at the end of the month, everyone in Sayulita can find something to do and participate in for a good cause, meet new people and feel a true sense of community.

Super Bowl XLVII Events in Sayulita
Sunday February 3rd

 Don Pedro`s Restaurant: Will have Super Bowl in full HD on 3 flat screens down stairs and a large HD projection screen (3mx2m) upstairs. Special appetizers to be served: Garlic Chile Wings, Asian style Spare Ribs and Super Nachos. Don Pedro`s still has squares available on the game pool for anyone with to participate. Don Chow's: Super Bowl Party at Don Chow's will be serving sushi and having a BBQ. Flat screen TVs will be showing the game. Come early to reserve your space as tables are limited. Bar opens at noon. Los Afortunados: Open from 4:30 until the game is over. Special Super Bowl Sunday Menu will include: Arrachera Steak Sandwiches, Charbroiled Chorizo Skewers, Bleu Cheese Burgers, Spinach Salads, Chips and Salsa and Guacamole. Enjoy $15 peso beer anytime that the 49ers are in the lead! Sayulita Public House: Only a few tables left to be reserved! Sayulita Public House has installed a 55" screen with Shaw Direct on the patio for the Super Bowl. There will a game pool, and live music after the game! Iguana Gardens: Don miss the Super Bowl party and BBQ happening this Sunday at the Iguana Gardens. Super Bowl Sunday food and drink specials will be served. There will be a half time Ping Pong tournament! Bring the whole family! Bar Escondido: Escondido will be showing the game on the flat screens and will have a couple of Super Bowl drink specials such as the Raven and 49er theme cocktails. Bar Escondido will be opening an hour early at 4:00 PM for the big game! Go 49ers!

 One thing that stands out about Oswaldo Vallejo is his passion for Mexico and for Sayulita in particular. My first contact with Oswaldo was through an interview he gave to this newsletter years ago, when I wasn't even sure when I was coming down to retire in our pueblo. There never was any doubt that I would retire in this "quiet little fishing village"; it was only a matter of when. At that time, Oswaldo was working with the Delegado's Office and directing the affairs of the Casa de la Cultura. Things have changed since that article was written a few years ago. Call to Sayulita to Save a Local's Life

Some of you may know Renee Torres, a local surfing instructor and resident of Sayulita for the last fifteen years. For those of you who don't, Renee is a quiet man with a calm and kind demeanor who is often seen riding his bike or riding a wave. A couple weeks ago Renee was in a motorcycle accident and was rushed from hospital to hospital to get the treatment he needed. He went through three surgeries within ten days to repair all the internal organ damage. He has been released, but now owes $12,000 U.S. dollars for all the medical expenses. More

On Thursday night, the book store held an art exhibition, Making Waves, for Ed Rinas, one of the owners, and Jim Starkey. The event was a success both for those who wanted to view the amazing pieces and for those who wanted to know the processes for each type of art work. It's almost a toss up with Don Pedro's (which anchors the beach and is part of every beach shot used in magazines) but I think I'd have to say that the landlmark of Sayulita is Calypso. Give credit to the Rodriquez family and their architect, Ropy. I don't go back as far as many residents, but I still remember when the space that is now Calypso was just a rough hangout for teenagers. It was one of two "not-so-great-second-floor-spaces" facing each other. More

 San Pancho Music Festival
Date: Friday February 22 - February 24
San Pancho has announced their annual 3-day Music Festival will be held Friday, Feb.
22nd through Sunday, Feb. 24th in San Francisco, Nayarit, Mexico. The Music Festival is celebrating it's 13th year, and as always there will be no charge to the public. The Music Festival will feature performing artists from the region of Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, as well as musicians from the United States and Latin America. The event will begin at 5pm each day, with performances up until 11pm each night.

Pet of the Week: "Gi Gi"
|
Gi Gi was found on New Years day in heat and very exhausted. She is now spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Gi Gi is very sweet and mellow. She is house trained and does well living inside a house. She gets along well with dogs, cats and LOVES children! She has great off-leash recall. Are you ready to make this beautiful girl a new member of your family?
