Sayulita Surf
It has been another beautiful, sunny week in Sayulita as we approach the end of January. Surfers and paddle boarders are enjoying the fun waves out on our bay and there will be plenty of happenings in town in the upcoming weeks.

Last week we mentioned a new El Sayulero column, "Sayulita Is For Everybody". In this edition, our contributor Timothy Kelly interviews Rollie of Rollie's Restaurant where he relates his interesting story of how he arrived to Sayulita and now calls it "home" during part of the year. Also, this week Grupo Pro Sayulita elected a new president on Wednesday evening, Nick Sherman was announced as the new GPS president. Read about Nick Sherman in his article below. Nick will be contributing articles about Grupo Pro Sayulita's efforts and community programs in upcoming El Sayulero editions. Eric Rudd, who was GPS president for three years and wrote the weekly GPS articles will continue writing for El Sayulero with his new column, Pueblo Magico where he will be highlighting some of the things in Sayulita that make our town a magical place to live and visit.

Thank you to all our readers and contributors of El Sayulero!

Question of the Week:
Do you think it's important to keep
El Sayulero in Spanish?

"I read your Spanish edition of the Sayulero, and I feel the translation is important because it's a publication written in Mexico about a Mexican town. I think it would be a big mistake and offensive for many people that live in this town and aren't fully bilingual to not have the translation."

Sayulita Is for Everybody:
Interview with Rollie

By Timothy Kelly

You know him as the voice of  Rollie's Restaurant, the man who warms your heart with his smile and genuine "welcome to Rollie's". He is an educator by trade, actor by passion, restauranteur, husband, father, and grandfather. And, he is one of a very few people who has no known enemies, and scores of friends. Of course, unless you've never been to Sayulita, you know by now that I am talking about Rollie Dick, owner of Rollie's Restaurant. With his beautiful wife, Jeanne, at his side, Rollie will transform your dining experience into a "love-fest". But, Rollie wasn't always a restauranteur in Sayulita. In fact, the story of how he came down to our lovely pueblo is as interesting as he is today.  Read entire interview

Bite This: Teriyaki Chicken at Don Chow

There are a lot of new items on the menu at Don Chow's, but this is my go to favorite. And it's been enhanced this year. Lots of tender chicken in teriyaki sauce with nice bits of cooked pineapple to give one's taste buds a nice surprise. Rice and a crisp salad make for a delicious plate all around.  More

New GPS President: Nick Sherman

For all those who could not attend, Wednesday was a very exciting night. The Casa de Cultura was packed with existing and new voting members. We heard from all the excellent projects that we support; Sayulimpia, SayulitAnimals, Sayulita Recicla, Emergency Services, Aire Puro, Sayulita Verde, Public School Assistance, the police support project. We heard from the extremely loud birds in the trees. We had a wonderful translator, something that we would like to continue to have at all the meetings. More

New Column: Pueblo Magico

I've stopped writing as president of GPS but I thought I'd continue a column in some form. The question was-- what should be my theme? I'm an artist, so perhaps I could write about aesthetic issues or highlights in town. Sayulita has a lot of attractive features. So many, in fact, that we can almost consider ourselves a "Pueblo Magico." More

Mas

Pet of the Week:  "Paloma"

 Paloma

My name is Paloma. I am a fun, smart and sweet girl dog. People say I'm "exuberant." I love to play with other dogs and really want a family. My foster dad put a dog collar on me and I almost did somersaults. It feels so good to belong - even if it's just temporary. I'm soft and cuddly but not a wimp and I run really fast. Before my foster parents found me I lived on the street near a taco stand. It took a day or two but now I've learned to like dog food. I'm still kinda skinny but my foster mom makes a mean dish of kibble with a little wet food mixed in. I'll probably gain a couple pounds real soon. I'm very friendly with all humans - big and small. In fact, I'm so socialized that I think people thought I already had a home. Turns out, that's right, I'm a simple street and beach dog. I need love just like everybody else - and will give it back big time. Please consider me to be your new pet.

To adopt an animal or donate to Sayulitanimals contact: [email protected]

Soy Paloma. Soy divirtida, inteligente y dulce.
