Tourists, locals, snowbirds, part-time and full-time residents here in Sayulita this time of year are enjoying the bustle of the town, sunny warm days, cool nights and ocean breezes in our beautiful beach town. The Friday Farmer's Market was alive with vendors and customers today. If you are in Sayulita be sure to check out this great community market every Friday during the high season.
El Sayulero this weeks brings you a new column "Sayulita Is For Everyone" where our new El Sayulero contributor, Timothy Kelley will be interviewing the wonderfully different people that make up our multi-cultural community and sharing their unique stories of how they discovered our once sleepy fishing village or why they now call Sayulita "home". We hope you enjoy Timothy's first interview in the newsletter below.
Also, in this edition of El Sayulero, Sayulita Life announces new employee Nicki Cooper who has recently been hired as SayulitaLife.com's Social Media Manager. You may have already be familiar with Nicki and her articles that she has contributed to El Sayulero over the last two years. Nicki has been living full-time in Sayulita for five years and has established herself in the community with her work at Costa Verde International School and Sayulitanimals. Sayulita Life hires new Social Media Manager: Nicki Cooper

 As our digital world evolves, so do the methods potential Sayulita visitors utilize to research and study where to spend vacation time and budgets. As part of its ongoing commitment to advertise Sayulita to the world, Sayulita Life recognizes the importance of reaching out to target markets as effectively as possible and through any and all means available to us. To that end, we are extremely proud to announce our newest team member in charge of web content and social media; Nicki Cooper.
Nicki has worked as a part-time El Sayulero contributor for over two years and will now take over as content writer, copy writer, and SEO strategist (search engine optimization; i.e. Google) by ensuring the SayulitaLife website has continual fresh content, useful links, and can be found easily by those looking for everything Sayulita. She will be in charge of all our social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pintrest, TripAdvisor, as well as being an active contributor to the Sayulita Forum.

Interview with Mike Scannel

He hails from Tacoma, Washington, stands tall like Mount Rainier, and has a heart to match. Mike Scannell (aka-Big Mike and Washington Mike) first came to Mexico in a submarine in 1957 while on active duty in the Navy. His port of call was Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, and that was to be his "port of call" for the next 20+ years. Mike returned in the 1960's for a civilian visit, and again in 1973 & 1974 for return visits. He was "hooked", and soon became a Mexican "junkie". In the early 1980s Mike purchased a residence in Mazatlan, and there might have been the end to this story had not his daughter-in-law lost her purse on one visit to Mexico. What once were solid colored walls now flash with brilliant colors and haunting art work full of soul, imagination, and visible love of the brush. The walls in front of Quiverito surf shop, up from Don Pedros take you on a journey from free spirited woman, to ancient culture, followed by magic in the waters, and ending with a liquid sunset. Spay and Neuter Clinic Knows No Boundaries

Sayulitanimals has been offering free spay and neuter clinics and weekly operations every year. In 2009 there were 360 surgeries, in 2010 361, in 2011 410, and in 2012 466. The impact in Sayulita has been so profound; they are now able to branch out to other surrounding towns. Their current clinic, which ends today, found Sayulita to need very little work and therefore only spent the first day in town completing 24 operations. Then they were able to go to El Guimuchil for two days completing 50 surgeries, and they will finish in Higuera Blanca this evening. More

Jaltemba Bay Cup Golf Tournament
Date: Saturday January 26th
The Jaltemba Cup is a two-day charity tournament supporting educational and medical initiatives for children in the Riviera Nayarit. Teams of four - men's, ladies or mixed - are encouraged to register by Monday, January 21, 2013. Registration fee is 400 pesos for club members and 600 pesos for non-members. Nine holes of golf are played each day - Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27th. Prizes are awarded for best men's, ladies and mixed teams, as well as closest to the pin, accuracy line and best dressed/most original team. There will be 50/50 draws as well as raffles and an auction. Dinner and entertainment is included on Sunday. A meal can be purchased on Saturday. Pet of the Week: "Parker"

Parker is a soft, loving and extremely affectionate boy. He was abandoned on the beach, but was very persistent about finding someone to take care of him. He is happy that his foster parents are feeding him and keeping him safe, but would love a real home. He loves people and dogs and would make the perfect loyal companion. Beautiful Trash Corner

I was walking early in the morning, rounding the corner and I couldn't believe my eyes....I thought I was dreaming. Someone had turned our trash corner--which , even though it's got one of those standing trash baskets, was always a messy garbage heap, no matter how many times you picked up around it--into a beautiful, garden-surrounded, bamboo fenced, fancy garbage enclosure. On closer inspection, I found that Jose Salim, who lives at and manages Villas Sayulita, had taken it upon himself to beautify our corner. Thank you, Jose!! We promise to help keep it beautiful. Okay, Sayuleros, see what you can do in your neighborhood.

Caminaba temprano en la manana cuando vi algo que me sorprendio... crei que estaba sonando. Alguien habia convertido nuestra esquina - la que siempre tenia basura, aunque tiene un basurero, en una esquina con jardin y una cerca hecha de bamboo. Luego me di cuenta que Jose Salim, quien vive y maneja el hotel Villas Sayulita, habia decidido embellecer nuestra esquina. Gracias Jose. Prometimos mantenerla bonita.
