Greetings to our 8,379 subscribers, | Photo by Brittney Borjeson |
Happy New Year to all our subscribers and contributors. El Sayulero has grown with nearly 1000 more subscribers in just the last year since our first 2012 edition was published. Now going into 2013, we expect our community newsletter to continue expanding with new subscribers and interesting articles and content weekly. If you have missed any editions in the past, you can always read through our Newsletter Archives on SayulitaLife.com.
The New Year started off with a bang in Sayulita, literally as fireworks lit up the skies and firecrackers and sparklers continued to go off through out the night. From what I can remember the town has never been so busy during the New Year holiday with tons of tourists and national vacationers visiting from larger in-land cities this past week, Sayulita was at it's capacity. After Sayulita had a few set backs on Monday such as a power outage all over town which lasted for approximately 15 hours and a shortage of water, the lights came back on just in time for sunset on New Year's Eve and the celebrations kicked off at various local restaurants and bars.
Sayulita had some unusual weather for this time of year on January 1st with cloudy skies and rain all day long, however that didn't stop many surfers enjoying the waves with wet suits on! The rain has cleared now and it appears to be sunny days ahead to start off 2013!
Thank you for reading El Sayulero and happy new year to all!

Sayulita Brings In The New Year
|
By Nicki Cooper
With storms on the horizon, droves of people headed out to the plaza decked in sequins, high heels, fancy boots, and slick suits to dance, celebrate, and count down to 2013. Bars, restaurants, and the streets were filled with revelers as music blared from every direction with sounds of banda, reggae, hip hop, and rock n roll. As the New Year drew closer, partiers packed in tight to be near friends and family, order their drinks, and grab a kiss as the clock struck midnight. Read more

Bite This: Blackberry Chicken at Tierra Viva
|
Good things do come in small packages-a ring from Tiffany, a fat check from Grandma and excellent food from a postage-stamp size restaurant, Tierra Viva. It's one block from the beach at Marlin and Manuel Navarete. The restaurant is also open air, so you catch gentle breezes (bring a sweater, just in case) and it also is a very romantic spot. More
Mas

A Sincere Thank You To Sayulita

Jose Mora Cervantes, the voice of Sayulita radio, and Liliana Perez, the director of La Casa de la Cultura, partnered to bring Santa to all the children of Sayulita who otherwise wouldn't have received a gift or a Christmas celebration. For weeks they asked locals and tourists alike to donate toys for girls and boys aged infant to 13, and their requests were heard. The day was a joyous success, with over 280 children attending and each one receiving a gift from Santa. More

GPS: Many Thanks To Our Extraordinary Volunteers
|
The year is just beginning and for some at GPS, there'll be a change of guard on January 23. In two weeks, I'll put some things into perspective in my farewell column. But this week, I'd like to thank the people who worked so very hard to make my three years as president of GPS so very productive. We raised a hell of a lot of money and we were very hands-on as to how the funds were put to use. We have no staff and no office- we are all volunteers and the funds we raise all go for town's needs. Mas
