Greetings to our 8,602 subscribers,

Plaza Day of the Dead Happy Dia de Los Muertos! Day of the Dead is a special time of year and an important celebration in Sayulita as families honor friends and loved ones who have passed on from this life. The party got started in Sayulita with the American traditional celebration of Halloween on Wednesday night. People of all ages were out on the town dressed in costumes and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The Sayulita plaza is currently decorated with Day of the Dead figurines, marigolds, crosses, candles and sugar skulls, all artistically displayed as an offering to the dead. Tonight traditions continue with music and dance downtown starting at 7:30PM. Don't miss this event and the opportunity to take photos of the beautiful Day of the Dead altar set up at Sayulita's gazebo in the plaza.

Farmer's Market Today was the first Farmer's Market of the season with a brand new location on Calle Miramar, just down from the bookstore. This season you can expect all your favorite vendors at the market and some new foods and products as well. The Mercado del Pueblo boasts a variety of organic and natural groceries, snacks, soaps, salsas, soups, drinks, fresh flowers and much more.  If you missed it today, be sure to visit the Farmer's Market next Friday!

Along with the rest of Sayulita, the El Sayulero newsletter is gearing up for the season as we go back to weekly editions starting next week. In the upcoming months there is sure to be many events, celebrations, fundraisers, community stories and local news to report. Thank you again to our writing contributors and the over 8,600 readers from all over.

Question of the Week:
"What are your thoughts on Halloween and
Day of the Dead in Sayulita?"

By Nicki Cooper

Jess"I love it! I look forward to it every year. For Halloween, I love everyone dressing up and seeing the different extensions of people's personalities. For Day of the Dead, it's a wonderful part of the culture, a connection with the ancestors. The view of death as a normal part of life and not something to be scared of."

"Me encanta!

Day of the Dead Traditions in Sayulita

 By Nicki Cooper

Day of the Dead

Every year on November first and second, the people gather to celebrate the lives of those who have passed on. In this tradition, altars are set up around the plaza in very distinctive styles to make an offering to the spirits who return on this night. Filled with flowers, photos, food, and items that the deceased loved or owned, each tier is full of customs and respect. This year the event in the plaza was organized by a small group who spent the day building and decorating a massive altar on the gazebo steps in the plaza. More

Mas
Sayulimpia Volunteers

By Marcos Scott
Sayulimpia

Sayulimpia

You may have seen a group of young people, many of them in green Sayulimpia T-shirts sweeping streets, removing dirt and trash lately.  These are Sayulimpia volunteers who have come from towns all over Bahia de Banderas to help us make Sayulita a cleaner, healthier place.  Sayulimpia helps pay for their housing but they make their living from small contributions given to them from passers by.  If you see them sweeping and you'd like to support what they're doing, we would like to encourage you to help them out with a small contribution.  You will be helping to polish the diamond that is our magical pueblo of Sayulita!

 Sayulitanimals

Sayulitanimals is a labor of love and has a small group dedicated to the day to day needs of the organization. I, Nicki Cooper, worked in the office for over a year before resigning my position to pursue new dreams and goals. Even though I will not be in the office, I will continue to support Sayulitanimals and help to create a safer and happier life for the street dogs and cats of Sayulita. Right now I would like to do a quick introduction to the new Sayulitanimals member, Tami Vlaco.  More

CVIS Halloween Haunted House

CVIS Haunted House

CVIS knows how to throw a party!  Every year they have a great Halloween party.  There are lots of really cute little kids in adorable costumes.  But the biggest draw is always the haunted house and all the kids love to wait in line in anticipation.  But once they get inside,  they realize they may just be in a bit over their heads....it's scary!
