Greetings to our 8,204 subscribers,

There is already so much to do in Sayulita and some great upcoming events to take part in as Halloween and Day of the Dead quickly approaches. The second annual Dia de los Muertos festival in the plaza will begin on October 31st through to November 2nd. There will be decorated altars set up as well as traditional food and dance. This event organized by Belen of Esto Es Mexico requires volunteers and donations. If you wish to participate in decorating an altar, donating food of decorations please contact Belen directly: www.sayulitalife.com/estoesmexico.

Other events not to miss out on include tonight's CVIS poker run, a fundraiser where proceeds go towards a recycled playground for the students. Game begins at 7PM at Casa Hasburgh and tickets can be purchased upon arrival. Also in an effort to raise funds for CVIS, the annual Halloween Party and Haunted House will take place at the school on Wednesday October 31st. It will be a fun time for everyone, especially the kids!

Homeowners in the Nanzal neighborhood can read the article below for more details on an initiative to regularize the land and give out title documents to homeowners. The process is underway as surveys have already been carried out on the north side of town.

Enjoy the sun, surf and sand this week in Sayulita and thank you for reading El Sayulero.

Mercado del Pueblo

This is the fourth season of the Sayulita Farmers' Market, and lots of new changes, including location, are in store for the season. This is the only Farmers' Market in Nayarit, and they have collaborated with the Saturday, Puerto Vallarta market, the Sunday, La Cruz market, and the Monday, Bucerias market. This year the market is truer to the idea of a farmers' market with significantly more local and organic produce. Of course, all your old favorites will be returning as well!  More

Skatepark Sayulita: Make it Possible!

Skatepark

On October 13th, Skatepark Sayulita hosted its first event to raise funds and awareness to build a local skate park. The need to give skateboarders a location is getting more prominent in town as all age levels are flocking to the sport. So a committee was formed to give a voice to the dilemma and create some action. Cristian is the president, Yvvis and Cesar are the secretaries, and Julio is the accountant, and together they began spreading the word and making connections.  More

Trash

Our town produces more trash than Bucerias and San Pancho combined.  It's an incredible amount and it shows a lot of economic activity.  Trash is picked up by a regional company called GIRRSA. To Girrsa's credit, they come here almost every day and pick up residential and commercial trash.  However, our trash and recycling service has not been what it should be for so much production. Kids Corner:
Halloween Apple Heads

By Astrid Vanya

 Apple Heads

Since Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos is so soon, I want to do a spooky themed project. Carving pumpkins aren't that easy to get here in Sayulita, so I thought I would carve an apple head. Apple head dolls have an interesting history, Mother Earth News says "The Seneca Indians were reportedly the first people to make dolls out of apples, but the craft was later adopted by mountaineers in Appalachia." Whomever made these fun crafts first had a great idea. This is a fun easy project for us Sayulita Kids.

Mas

Sayulitanimals: How Adoption Works

By Nicki Cooper

 Sayulitanimals

Sayulitanimals is not a shelter, but we constantly place dogs and cats in foster homes. We keep lists of animals in town and in kennels that are waiting for their new family. So often people come to us looking for specific breeds, and we DO have them! We cannot always offer a Chihuahua or Pit-bull, but it is never long before one comes our way.  More

Mas

Pet of the Week: "Picasso"

 Picasso

Picasso is a young, male dog who was found on the highway near Higuera Blanca.  He is extremely underweight, anemic, and is currently in the Sayulitanimals medical aid program for observation and care.  He cannot stay alone in a kennel all the time; it is not healthy for his mind or body.  We are desperately searching for a foster for Picasso while he recovers.  He has someone watching him for the next week, but after that he will be by himself most of the time.  Picasso is very sweet and shy, and doesn't react around other dogs.  If you could care for him or give him a new home, please contact Sayulitanimals today.

Photo of the Week:  Sayulita Skaters

Last Saturday, Skaters of Sayulita showed up and skated up and down jumps and rails and down steep hills all day on Miramar, to raise money for a Skate Park in Sayulita. All I can say is, there are some amazing skaters of all ages here and they definitely deserve a cool park.....made of rubber... so I can watch without flinching when they crash onto the ground.
