Recapping an Exciting Summer of State Wars Hockey
Over the next few months we will be releasing recaps of ALL of the divisions that took place at State Wars this summer. Obviously a lot of work goes into each one of these newsletters, as you will see from the content below, so please be patient as we will get to your division. This week we are featuring the always fun and energized 6 & under division. We also will be posting numerous pictures on Facebook of the division we are highlighting so make sure you check it out. To see this info on Facebook, make sure you LIKE our State Wars Hockey Community Page (more info in the right column). Thank you for being a part of State Wars Hockey...enjoy!
It was great to be able to share our amazing 10th year anniversary with all of you who attended State Wars at the gorgeous SportONE/Parkview Icehouse. We felt this was our best event EVER and we look forward to making this wonderful event bigger and better in 2015!

Small in Stature but Huge in Heart & Excitement I can't write about the 6 & under division without having a big smile on my face as I type. The kids at this age are not only the future of this great sport, but so much fun to watch play. There is SO much energy and excitement surrounding this age group and of course the smiles are infectious. This past summer we had 5 teams competing in the 6 & under division, as we had two state teams (Tennessee and Michigan) who were able to field their own full squads and three "mixed state teams" named for our main sponsors (Alkali, Mission, and Tour). The "mixed state teams" had players on them representing: Florida, North Carolina, Texas, Ohio, California, Rhode Island, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Ontario, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. The goal of course from these mixed state teams, is for motivated parents and coaches to help get more local interest so they too can form complete state or provincial teams in the near future!
State Wars Hockey was very proud to partner with Alkali Hockey and offer EVERY player in this division a brand new pair of Alkali skates.
Through round robin play, Team Tour was the only undefeated team, posting a 4-0 record. Alex DeGroat (MO) would lead TeamTour and the division in goals scored (16) and points (21). Team Alkali's Christian Barron (NC) would lead the division in assists (7).
Many times in tournament play the round robin and playoffs seem like two totally different seasons, this was the case in the 6 & under division. When Team Alkali and Team Tour met in the round robin, Tour dominated the game winning by a 13-5 score. But keep in mind we are talking about little kids here, so who knows what may happen from game to game or day to day. This was the case in the 6 & under Championship Game, as a different Alkali squad came to play on this day. After exchanging goals for most of the first half, Team Alkali would start to take over the game, in the end winning by a 9-5 score.
Christian Barron (NC) would win the "Alkali Most Valuable Player Award" scoring 4 goals in the final game! Team Michigan would also defeat Team Mission in the bronze medal game, 10-4. Henry Brzustewicz (MI) would lead the way with a 3 goal and 2 assist effort! Our hope is that everyone in attendance had a terrific time win or lose. State Wars is about so much more than just the play between the whistles. It is about representing where you come from and taking pride in that, something that should be taught at an early age. It is also about playing with different players from around the state or province and making tons of new friendships. It is also a special time for families to spend together and hopefully create life long memories that we can all look back at one day. Thank you for making State Wars Hockey so special for us and please help spread the word to others about this event, as we strive each year to get bigger and better!
